Ah yes! The old insoluble fibre - gut bacteria can't break it down so you get incomplete digestion and gas production.

A question for you racing types ...... is loading up with beans before a race then using the resulting gaseous byproduct as a repellent against your opponents a valid technique for winning? :p

Isn't there meant to be some cycling on SBS this weekend? Paris-Roubaix highlights or something?

Yeah **** happens. If it is in the vegemite Im stocked up until im 55

About the chicken. Im talking takeaway and roast. Dad was in a position that he had to visit the large chicken farms. What we call free range is not what the they call "free range" If your getting your chicken from some wacko lot, I guess it probably is free range. Don't trust the companies on that one.

Yup, it is important to be aware of the source of your food and its production methods if you want eat smart. We have a lot of chicken farms up here, growing under contract to Inghams.

I reckon your first step in the healthy eating stakes would be to cut out the take-aways, you will do your body a truckload of good. Then get into cooking because that's the easiest way to control the quality and quantity of what goes in your mouth.

Taught my 14 yo nephew to make a good bolognaise sauce last month - he was fascinated by the fact that I pulled a chunk of meat out of the fridge and minced it myself, gave me the perfect chance to explain about quality of ingredients, freshness, etc, etc.

And no, Kotter, I am not volunteering to teach you to cook. ;)

I wish.... If only I didn't have this stupid thing called a job! :D

But you can see live action here http://64.78.18.131/live/bells06/live.asp

The best part about this line of discussion is that it gives me a fairly good indication of who voted Howard. :)

Nev, I think you're confusing Vegan and Vegetarian. There's plenty of B12 in Vegemite, Eggs, Cheese, Yoghurt - all dairy products. There's also unreliable traces in things such as seaweed (nori), Spirulina and Barley. In the protein front, no problems there either - plenty in grains, seeds, nuts, legumes and dairy. The mouthful of mud I get from mountainbiking and the insects between the teeth probably help too.

Nobody is saying you can just take meat out of your diet and be fine, but really, it's not that difficult. Sure, some idiots go on extreme weird diets and find themselves in trouble, but they're just that. Idiots. There's also plenty of idiots on the other side of the fence slowly killing themselves and their colons with a diet that consists mostly of saturated fats and processed foods, too.

I've never been an extremist and I always advocate moderation. I don't have any problem with people eating meat, but I'm not prepared to kill amimals myself, and I'm fully aware of the impact the Western Diet is having on the rest of the world, it's peoples and the ecology. That's where my decision-making comes from.

Matagi, I think you're hilarous. Improve biodiversity by eating them! Brilliant! Maybe we should petition the government about the Eastern Quoll or Orange-Bellied Parrot?

pshaw 04-19-06 06:05 PM

hey Jock, I got a thousand back issues of procycling and ride mag if you are bored?
Hope your dodgy pinky isnt hindering any other time filling activities :p

climbo 04-19-06 06:10 PM

Slater looks very good as usual.... plenty of Aussies through to semis if Occy can beat Andy. :)

HEY who said I can't cook ;)

Nah Ive really cut down on the take away. In reality any take away is bad news. Vegetarism has always interested/fascinated me I just want to give it a spin and see how it goes. Plus its really green for the environment.

I say, eat sensibly in moderation and dont stress about it.
You'll probably get hit by a bus or someone will nick your wheel anyway

Wilchemy 04-19-06 06:27 PM

Occy has got a couple of nice scoring waves so far giving him a good lead. There is some serious swell today.

climbo 04-19-06 06:48 PM

Occy smashed him. You bloody beauty !! :)

Wilchemy 04-19-06 06:58 PM

I reckon Occy v Slats for the final. Go Occy!

Have to give props to Slats tho...dude is one seriously good surfer.

Thylacine 04-19-06 07:05 PM

Gawd, how did that thread of Koffees blow out to 3 pages overnight?

How do I put this nicely? Um....maybe get a beater/townie and a U-Lock?

Well hate to say it: its true. If someone is making a buck out of something, they will look after it, so they can continue to make money out of it. Basically they exert property rights over it. Thats why whaling/fishing etc in the ocean doesnt work. No one owns the ocean so no one has property rights over it. No one has property rights no one can make money out of it.
Think of the communal farms in Russia, never worked because freeloaders could just come in and take what they like. The people who put in the hard work got less. (this is of course excluding the fact Stalin sent all the rich/good farmers off to Gulags, but it still works as an example)
Property rights = people looking after stuff because they can make money off it

Yeah as someone says who the heck rides such a nice set of wheels around and then doesn't lock them up. I wouldnt even do that here where only a few people would recognise the wheels

DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate to restart the thread, but if you read thru, it was a one-off time she didnt lock securely cause of a bunch of reasons but probably there was a tiny bit of faith in human nature that the bike would be ok in front of a security guards office, and that leaving something locked/unlocked isnt an open invitation for it to be taken away.

Jeez, yeah, she's an ass for saving up and riding a nice bike, and not locking every part of it down...

Shouldnt your point be - who the heck steals a nice set of wheels from someone who worked hard to save and buy them.

Call me a dreamer but....give the girl a break.

Thylacine 04-19-06 07:56 PM

I'm sure Ugo will buy her a new one.

I read her reply to your suggestion on the other thread, must say I can see her point of view - she wants to get where she's going as fast as she can and have fun doing it. No beater is going to do that for her, so she has to be extra careful with securing her bike at her destination. The one time she stuffs up, goodbye wheel - what can one say .... stuff happens.

Wilchemy 04-19-06 09:49 PM

And in the latest surfing news....Kelly Slater wins the Ripcurl Pro at Bells Beach, beating Aussie Joel Parkinson in the final. No shame in being beaten by Slats.

Brian 04-19-06 09:52 PM

Ladies and gentlemen! And the rest of you lot, give me a break. Do not use any obvious variations of a shortened version of the word "Firetruck". Although I do think fark is ok, as in the website, farkin.net. Also, while Winnie The Pooh is ok, any other references to the other "Poo" are generally not allowed. If you absolutely must, just spell it properly, and let it come out ****, ****, John Howard, or whatever other obscenity you'd like. It takes quite a bit of time to edit this stuff out, but I can't leave it, because the forum rules do need to be applied evenly to all members. I probably missed a lot in the last few pages, since I was busy eating a nice chicken breast stuffed with lamb and wrapped in a nice Porterhouse steak, with a tasty salad of fresh green tossed with baby seal and bottle nose dolphin bits on the side.

Thanks for your cooperation.
