jock 03-20-06 09:58 PM

Gday Expat.

Man 7 weeks without any kit??!?? you guys must be doin it real tough

Thylacine 03-20-06 10:05 PM

O'Neil and Day, 1 and 2 in the ITT.

Is there any more compelling proof that we should become a Republic?

jock 03-20-06 10:13 PM

ROFLMAO

Mate, we were well on track to become a banana republic but bloody Howard came in and stuffed Labour's grand plan and Cyclone Larry wiped out the crops that would've been used if Labour ever gets back into power

Well, the missus turned 40 last month. And this past weekend, she was involved in her first snowball fight, made her first snowman, and learned how to make snow angels as well. We took the dog to the park, and ran around like a couple of kids. On the plus side, we can ride to next year's Sundance Film Festival from our house. A small river separates the bike path from the highway. We are so spoiled here.

why couldnt the TT be on yesterday when i had a day off work instead of the that stupid walking joke of an event.

is Michael Rogers out injured? then again i guess that when your 3 world titles into your career, a comm games gold isnt that much in the grand scheme of things!

jock 03-20-06 10:41 PM

A lot of Aussies were allowed to play in the CGs. Not glamourous enuf for their teams to release them. Rodgers was pretty disappointed at not being able to play, but a job's a job and when cycling's all you've got it pays not to get the sack I guess.

Gordy got up for NZ's solitary TT medal. The man's a machine. On New Years eve he got side swiped by a car (hit and run) and broke a bone in his wrist. Two weeks later he was riding the Wellington Tour and training for the Comm Games.

jock 03-20-06 10:50 PM

Good on him. The kiwi team have had a real rough time of it on the bike so far these games.

62vette 03-20-06 10:58 PM

The Kiwi track team are pretty slutted off and could lose some funding based on the poor medal count. Sports funding is pretty results oriented here :(

531Aussie 03-20-06 11:03 PM

Thylo, remember someone slammed you for referring to something on Beach Rd as a "hill"? Well, some of the riders have said stuff like, "it looks flat, but it's not, and "it's harder than it looks". There you go :)

I'm with ya, by the way: some of the rises are tougher than they look.

Same here in Oz, we just been able to keep ahead of the game for nearly 10 years through some very hard work and a willingness to be open to new thinking.

It won't be long before other countries catch up as their development programs kick into high gear, and our winning ways will thin out somewhat. And so too will the funding.

Slutted off? There's a kiwism for ya. Never heard of that one. I can just hear the pronunciation as well.

A lovely few hours in the sun watching bikes and scantily clad women - only beer would have made things better :D

531, probably a good thing some of the guys didn't have tri-bars considering how much they wobbled using a normal set-up  And there were a few disc wheels that were only adding extra weight, since they don't really make a huge difference until you are at a decent speed.....O'Neill was stomping though!

Fellas,
Just thought you might be interested to see how I spent my day. *WARNING* Actual bike content to follow

(531, are you sure that was me? I'm positive there's no hills in Australia ;) )

Lovely welds. Yours?

Guys, my mate got bashed on Satdyarvo. Driving home from Sailing, in his street with the boat on the back and four punks forced him to stop by standing on the road, got his door open then bashed and cut him (broken nose, black eye and four stitches) for his wallet which they didn't get. Apparently they went on a rampage resulting another guy being admitted with a broken arm and a girl with 'serious injuries'.

Motto; If you happen to come across guys on the road who look dodgey, LOCK YOUR DOORS!

Thylacine 03-21-06 02:04 AM

Naw, I'm not the welder, I'm the owner of the company, which means I get to hand sand titanium frames for 4 hours and then put the decals on.

Ahhhh....the glamour.

Sorry to hear about your mate, that's really crappy.

He does seem to have some knowledge and "very" strong opinions which he dislikes others questioning. I think I actually have the footage of the now much discussed 2004 "incident" somewhere in the video cabinet but can't really be arzed finding it since I don't have the racing knowledge to add anything intelligent to the discussion. Sorry Thunder :D
Where's some input from ed073?

Got another lesson last nite. Looked like an easier field with the potential for a possible win. Pace early was generally slowish but a dad, who has the potential to win, and had his son and daughter racing decided to try a break with another rider at the beginning of the bell lap. I took the bait and chased down the break and both son and daughter and everyone else, sat on me while I towed them all in, stuffing myself half a lap from home. :(
Lesson 2,000,001; don't chase down breaks on the bell lap. You'd think a bloke as old as I am would be awake to that old scam. Not bloody me. I think I need a minder.
