Him and 'Patty are swapping stories about retro freestylers and that time they bumped into Bob Haro.

Good idea, except now the bike is over $3k. So it looks like someone actually wants the bike

jock 03-22-06 03:48 PM

Told you stuff weren't necessarily cheap on ebay :)

mrkott3r 03-22-06 04:05 PM

Yeah I guess it pays to see what an item is worth new before bidding

Still hoofing around. Mrs went to a detox health retreat last Sunday for 7 nights, I have had both babies (2 year old & 3 month) at nights and mornings & work to go to each day. Get home feed em and go to sleep.

A few guilt free extended Sat morning rides in my future, hmm yes.

jock 03-22-06 04:07 PM

whole host of interesting sports on today at the CGs:

womens 10m platform, www.cronica.com.mx/.../ details.php?image_id=169

tatiana grigorieva http://www.mattcleary.com/issue25_2000/page11.html ... err.. I mean the womens pole vault,

and some bike race. Overgrown BMX or something like that :p

jock 03-22-06 04:15 PM

Ahh, bmxer old chap. Glad to see you're still around. Was starting to worry that you might've been taken by the natives.

Anyway might be time for me to start doing some road miles again. You planning on doing that coluzzi run anytime in the near future?

was_bmxer 03-22-06 04:28 PM

Taken by the natives.... well I do live next to Maroubra, so if I turn up one day with the post code tattooed on my chest drinking beer and watching the surf till it gets small enough to go out, you'll know I'm in too deep.

Yeah, waterfall run, I go every Saturday. Will miss this one as I can't get a babysiter over at 5am, penalty rates and everything you know.

There is always a lady each Sat with a CCCC jersey, she is pretty strong, forgot her name??? rower as well. You might know her? It has been better (smaller) the last few weeks.

The sat morning group, I meant. In case you were wondering?

Rower? Hmmm... dunno. Cass Kell was goalie on the Aussie soccer team, now becoming a decent track rider. Only others I could think of would be Margaret Beardslee, Jenny Sparks, or Sandra Nottley but they're nowhere near as strong as Cass.

was_bmxer 03-22-06 04:47 PM

Yeah, I am pretty hopeless with names. esp street names.

"guy with the blue helmet and sidi's" or "the road that goes left, off cambered with the 2 pot holes" etc, thats how my brain seems to work.

Some of these other threads, What should I buy threads? WTF. I started a colnago one a few weeks ago, I guess the question wasn't stupid enough, only got about 10 replies.

Theres some chick on Ch9 saying her old coach told her she'd have to take performance enhancing drugs if she was going to compete at the top level. Greeeaaaat.

Just what Australian sport needs, another drug scandal/slander grudgematch.

10:00 - If your near a telly right now, the MTB is about to start!

*edit* Ah buggah, it was only 2min of talk.

HDTVKSS 03-22-06 04:55 PM

why deny the truth? just cause there not getting caught doesnt mean there clean.... maybee the aus male swim team needs to get on the gear the girls are using ;)

Well it would give A current affair something to show other than the runner who won gold last night, they could dig up some old Mark french/Athens olympic trail footage and tie it in with the "road cycling, are they a menace" story they air about once every 18 months, about due again anyway.

.

What sport? Who are Ch9 kidding? Commonwealth Games aren't top level. :D

Thylacine 03-22-06 06:01 PM

Is that why we're winning everything? ;)

jock 03-22-06 06:07 PM

I'm going with HDT on that one Thylo.

Sure it looks bad (and its probably a beat up anyway!), but it's not going to get better unless people come to fear the public scrutiny and shame.

Assume that there are drugs in sport in Oz. It would take a huge culture shift to get people to stop using them. Pressure to perform so that funding/sponsorship is continued, the weight of money making drugs freely available, and the spin doctoring that always promises that athletes can't perform at the top without product X means coaches and athletes alike are going to find it hard to resists the lure. Must keep winning, must keep winning....

HobartDave 03-22-06 06:30 PM

Hey guys. Sorry to bring the subject back to bikes, but I'm wondering if any of you are lighting/battery experts?

I've got a cateye double halogen setup, with the brick (lead acid) battery.
Have any of you swapped out the battery for something lighter, and with a quicker charge time, and longer burn time?

See, that's why I'm an advocate of performance un-hancing drugs. Imagine a bunch of guys trying to ride off their trees. THATS something I'd pay to watch!

Can be done, but there are a coupla things to watch out for.

Alkaline batteries: Cell voltage 1.5V. Non rechargable. Capacity up to 2500mAH

Lithium batteries: Cell voltage 1.5V. Non rechargable. Capacity up to 3000mAH

NiCad batteries. Cell voltage is 1.2V and gets lower with age, as does capacity (memory effect). Self discharging. Bad for the environment.

NiMH cells: Cell voltage 1.2V. High capacity. Minimal memory effect. Self discharging. Good capcity to weight.

Li-Ion cells: Cell voltage 3.6V. High capacity. Minimal memory effect. Excellent to weight. High cost. Requires power management chipset. Individual cells and chipsets not available in Oz.

Best option is Li-Ion as they pack plenty of punch at about half the weight and size of NiMH, which is the only other real choice.

You have to match the voltage rating of the existing lead acid battery, so if it's 12 volts you'll need to build some sort of voltage regulator circuit if you use Li-Ion as your only option would be four cell (14.4V). There is no chipset or charger that I know of for a three cell combo (10.8V) Li-Ion

For simplicity go with NiMH. Chargers and cells are readily available from Jaycar, Dick Smith, etc. Get high capacity cells 3000mAH or higher. Don't try to get advice from the store tools, they wouldn't know resistor from a Van De Graaff generator

Netballers on E. I'd probably watch that.... over and over.

Road or MTB or both?
I use those crappy visionsticks for the MTB, not very good but didnt cost much ($300).
Had a night out at the local XC course with the rep from Niterider and got to use a set of what i think were Forestorms? HID jobbies which RRP around $1000.

Well, it was like riding in the middle of the day these things were so damn bright. Good for dazzling mates and attracting every bug onto their head when you've stopped.
I'd luv a set but until the lotto cheque comes in, I'll continue to bag anyone who uses them as a cheat and tell them their not really night riding until they've used my candles ;)

Climbo bought a HID lightset last year. Wonder if he'd sell it to me for $50 now that he's full time shark bait

Wilchemy 03-22-06 07:04 PM

Hey 62vette, what's the deal with your cuzzy bro's? Quality stuff! :p
