I thought a solid 1-lap hit out would be adequate after 6 weeks off the bike and only 1 on. Pulled up OK after staying with them over Blood, so everything is on track. "Mewhawhawhaw" or something similar. Cue lightning and thunder fx.

75km next week should be a bit more of a test/struggle. I hope there's more than 10 ppls in it otherwise I might be in for a long and painful ride.

Anyone watch "Peking to Paris" on the ABC last night?

The reason I ask is that when the cars were driving through the Verdun, they passed a number of cyclists, all of whom were riding mixte frames with "upright" handlebars. As far as I can see, these are an ideal commuting bike and probably far better suited to the majority of people who want to do a bit of gentle cycling and/or run a few errands on their bike.

My question based on the above is ..... why isn't this style of bike generally available over here? Or is it, and I've just failed to notice?

You mean "flatbar"? Plenty of models available over here, cruisers are just not all that popular. Hopeless in commuter traffic coz the bars are too wide to squeeze between lanes with confidence, but good for a trip to the shops to get your 'husband beater' loaf.

i've seen quite a few on my commute of late, flat bars, disc brakes, the works... good street machines for the average commuter. They are starting to catch on more and more, my brother just bought a couple for his family also.

i tend to gravitate towards the specialized saddles. i have an alias with carbon bling :rolleyes: on the road bike, a rival MTB on the commuter and to buck the trend a Fizik somthing on the cannondale MTB ( only there cause it came on the bike..... for some reason the specialised saddles with the cut out doesnt hurt my man bits and i find them quite comfy, unlike the fizik arione which had me off to the doctor after it left me with a severe case of bruised balls after just one 1 hour ride.....

These have the "curvy" bars and the handle grip ends point back towards the rider - I'm sure there is a proper term for them. They aren't all that wide as far as I could tell, certainly seemed narrower than the trekking bars I have at home.

And just to make sure we are all on the same page, by mixte frame I mean the step through style.

The only thing I've seen locally which remotely resembles these bikes is that clunky Giant thing that has the ultra-wide seat and looks like it is designed to take an electric motor.

Funny how tastes change. I actually don't like the look of road bikes with horizontal top tubes anymore.

And I haven't liked Colnagos since 1988 when I was 17 and didn't know any better.
