Next week!

FWIW, i've been on the MTB a fair bit and legs/back are great. Had a blast down the M2 yesterday and the shooting pains in my left leg/ass cheek returned instantly

Bad news about your back ed. Is that an old cycling injury catching up with you or have you been lifting too many heavy weights?

yup, full carbon, ultegra.

Only stress is the insurance company is starting to dick me around. After saying they would settle in cash for replacement value, they now reckon they could have repaired the bike for less than the initial assessment. So I now don't know exactly how much I'm going to be getting GRRRR Hopefully I'm not too much out of pocket.

HDTVKSS 06-29-06 08:22 PM

hes a kiwi, so its better to speak their language as i learned from jake the muss,

eh bro?

62vette 06-29-06 08:28 PM

cuz is local lingo, along with:

- cher cher
- sweet
- you fullas
- bro

HDTVKSS 06-29-06 08:35 PM

who or what is a cher cher? double the bad g-string?

Wilchemy 06-29-06 08:36 PM

Been over to NZ a number of times now & picked up a bit of the local dialect - choice, hey.
Also if you catch a few episodes of Motorway Patrol you learn to speak cuzzy bro real well :D

But vette-man....i still reckon judder-bar is pisser of a name for speed hump!!

62vette 06-29-06 08:37 PM

cher cher

62vette 06-29-06 08:41 PM

Ah yes, forgot choice!

There's also "handle the jandal" as a reference to parental corporal punishment as in "can you handle the jandal". This is more Samoan/Tongan than Maori.

Motorway Patrol, an instant exposure to the strangest and worst of NZ society :roflmao:

We have a few odd ones like judder bar etc. The Aussie one I can't get to grips with is doona.

HDTVKSS 06-29-06 08:43 PM

i thought a jandal was a thong??

Wilchemy 06-29-06 08:46 PM

We use doona coz we're too lazy to say "eiderdown"

Correct summing up of Motorway Patrol - but it's an absolute cracker of a show!

62vette 06-29-06 08:48 PM

yep, a jandal is a thong, but also used by Samoan mums and dads to add a little colour to their kids cheeks :p

HDTVKSS 06-29-06 09:04 PM

is that because they cant find belts big enough?

That's gotta be a bike setup issue: you've got and underlying problem with your hammies, back muscles, neck muscles, or pelvic tilt and the road bike position exposes it. Most likely your sciatic nerve is getting worked over badly in the process. Go see someone who can fix your body and your bike. Maybe Dick Pettigrew can help there.

HDTVKSS 06-29-06 09:19 PM

pshaw, i get the same issues, but normally from road bike to MTB. my back kills after a race, esp after climbing :(

like most MTB's. is your seat lower than on your roadie? and i would imagine you have a much more upright position?

to correct this ive started training more on the top bar of my road bike, alternating position for intervals etc. also a real good hamstraing stretch seems to do wonders.

Yep, its the sciatic all right, I got a man who cured it in 2 sessions of acu! but I do need to fix the problem. hmmmmm...where to start.

Never from road to MTB, only on Roadie. and I was riding mainly on the tops. For the first time I felt like I was stretching a little with the legs so may drop seat down or move forward. I think fundamentally my frame is a wee bit big? I dont have much post out!
I was on the MTB on wed in kincumber mountain, 8 big climbs, all seated giving the hammies a serious workout and nothing the next day (apart from the usual). An hour down the M2 going slow and i feel like my old man who just had his hip replaced  Is that hereditary?

62vette 06-29-06 09:43 PM

Long climbs on the MTB have poked my back in the past. I think that the constant work to stay balanced plays a part in that.

Cured the symptoms, he didnt address the root cause!

getting old is crap!!:p My whole workout is just about by getting around my injuries: 2 dodgey elbows, dodgey back, average right shoulder, and a right pec injury that's bothered me for 2 years!!!
My whole chest workout consists of about 6 sets of 20lb flys!!!!:(

I hurt one of the tendons in my right elbow that runs over the funny bone, just by flipping the bar up to do some shoulder presses, and it was only 60 fkn pounds!! :(
