About 15 hard core athletes hit the track for a very social night of racing. Juniors, A+B and C+D for most events. PShaw was there and collected a couple of placings. Southerly caused havoc in the main straight.

Flying 200's were hotly contested, with Cass Kell showing plenty of speed and strength to head the field for right up until the last couple of riders. Time's were pretty slow tho, with the wind taking its toll on most ppl in the last 50m. Grant Fraser blitzed it by spinning silky smooth on 87" gearing.

Reverse Italian was the highlight of the night, where we must've hit a massive 30kph at one point. Would be a good warm down with a bunch ofC Grade riders at the tail.

Yep, pretty poor turnout but the program went ahead with combined A+B, C&D.

Got a couple of 3rds, then it went flying 200, all-combined miss & out then weird reverse Italian.

Was pleased with 13.97 for my first 200 on a windy night. :D

climbo 11-23-05 08:44 PM

If he can handle the wait, get a custom frame painted any way you want. It was no extra charge when I got mine three and a hlf years ago. I don't really fit "off the rack" frames, so I had to get it made up. But get to pick (or have a say at least) in all the angles and type of fork it came with. Other than that bargain hard.

Apart from the colours, it sounds like it's a good investment. BTW was_bmxer, my mates like the rest of us...he wants it yesterday, so I don't see him waiting. I will tell him though.

Link you with what? I still dunno what the friggin tool is called. Sheldon calls it a Kieren Multi Tool http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/tools/fixedgear.html

Also known as a hook wrench, but it's made specifically to replace a chain whip. So it could be called a chainless whip. Who knows? I haven't had much success trying to find one elsewhere.

Brian 11-23-05 09:34 PM

Oooh. Never seen one of those before. Don't know where I can get one, sorry. The curved end looks like the titanium spanner that came with the tandem. Maybe Climbo knows of another source in the US?

climbo 11-23-05 11:15 PM

12:45, he mustn't have had his Weetbix :)

It's called the Makino Pro Super Tool, and it's from Japan I believe, fully Keiren approved. This is where I got it...

I bought mine off Ebay cheap as. It's a low end 'Asphalt frame with 10sp campag Veloce and Vento wheels. Aside from being heavy (9.8kg) it's very stiff and has good geometry making it very comfy to ride.
Eddie Salas rides (and sells) Orbea so they can't be too bad.

Took me 15 mins to explain what this was in not so LBS in sydney.
Then the guy looked at me and said, but we sell lock ring spanners for $20 and chain whips for $30 whats your problem..?
Because it wasnt in the Park/Wrench force/Pro catalog... it didnt exist

Brian 11-24-05 04:21 PM

If the markup is big, it's worth my time trying to locate a few of them. But if the dealer price is close to retail on that oddball tool, I'll have a hard time getting someone to make me a deal on them. I'll ask around, and see what I can come up with.

jock 11-24-05 04:25 PM

Weather is looking less than good for racing this weekend. Hopefully the storms will bugger off for the track racing at Newcastle. I cant wait to get back on those concrete walls.

Brian 11-24-05 04:29 PM

Did I mention how many track bikes I've seen at work? There's heaps of you nutters around. And a guy in last night looking to upgrade the wheels on his $7500 Cannondale. I would have thought the motor is a better place to look for more speed.
