Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ed, Macca is from Albury and rides in the same bunch (as MacPArtland who is from Albury), and knows him, more than the common man, from what he said in a previous thread.

ROTFLMFAO you guys are way too funny. You have narrowed my identity down to a relation of mcpartland HINT: there are plenty of mc's or mac's who ride a bike around here...actually no there aren't the only other one I know is dave mcpartland.

HINT: I am no relation to dave.

exact same thing happened to me on Studley Park Hill with a couple of Gatorade pros in 93....Oscar Pellicioli and Andrea Chiurato. They were loping up in the big ring (full thermals mind you....a warm 23-25 degrees) and I was bouncing off 185bpm trying to look as bored as Big Mig in a press conference.....lucky I can't speak Italian, talking wasn't an option.

Tour Down Under start list. Is it just me or is the quality of the field deteroiating year by year?

Here is a partial list of the prizes for the ACMC 2006 -

set of 36H Phil Wood high-flange track hubs
Phil Wood BB
set of 36H Velocity Deep-V high polish rims, see this link - https://www.chainringtransitauthority...h_polish.shtml
set of 36H Velocity Deep-V black anodised w/o MSW rims
set of 36H Velocity Deep-V black w/ MSW rims
set of Continental Dura-skin tyres

That is just a few of the major prizes. There will minor prizes and giveaways galore.

The ACMC 2006 committee met this evening and I was told to stress that this event is open to all cyclists. Everyone is welcome.

kotter, as for the World's closed course, nobody likes it. But if we were to pursue an open course in the city, SYDBMA could not afford the insurance. So we did the next best thing. SYDBMA has a jersey coming out in the a few weeks time, to help fund-raise for the World's. The Australian, much less the Sydney courier community is small in comparision to the previous hosts for the World's. So I think that it has been a very ambitious effort for Sydney to host the World's.

Dunno what your talking about. There's a good contingent of Aussies and at least one guy whose name ends in OV. What more could you ask for in a field?

But seriously, the Tour Down Under is what it is. There's no real incentive for internationals to come all the way over here for a race or two as it doesn't sit well in the annual racing calendar for them. I'm surprised that European teams send anyone at all.
