Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: a few

good web page, thanks. How far out? Not far if possible, we'd like to be able to walk around the city and see a few things while we are there but as long as we can tram it or whatever we're happy. I'm looking at where the events are etc, i.e. the track cycling venue and I believe it's fairly close and easy to get to it from the city.

yeah, and I made even dumber mistakes thanthe week before

I saw Rob Crowe and John Kennedy rock up to A-grade, so I thought I'd jib it and go in 'B'. Now, I don't wanna sound like a hero, but B-grade vets was a LOT easier that A-grade.

I got off the front on my own for a few laps, then looked around, and thinking I was being caught, i slowed right down, but it wasn't my bunch, it was an A-grade break!!! So, I cranked it up again, and made the same mistake, but this time it was the A-grade chase group!! Then I virtually stopped to look over my shoulder to try to figure out where my group was

Last lap there was a guy off the front on his own, so I took off after him on the slight rise at Sandown. I was ~15M from the front guy when I turned to see the whole bunch only 40M from me, so I thought it was all over for us, and it would be a bunch sprint. WRONG WRONG WRONG!! Th eguy held on and won!!
STOOOPID!!

Well, I suppose it depends how much you wanna spend. I'm no traveller, but I'd guess that the inner city hotels will be bucket loads more than some motel 10k out of town.

If you're prepared to use a tram (which, once they make all their stops, are slower than a pushy) or train, you could get some joint for well under a 100 bucks a night. If I were you, I'd be staying east, south east, or inner north -- much safer than the westies

I feel your pain, similar thing happened when I decided to drop myself back to b-grade about 4 weeks ago. Every time I have ridden in that group I have wasted my energy trying an attack or tried to be a hero. The pro's are going overseas or to the tour down under now so its safe to crawl out of my shell and race A's again.

this isn't really a 'young mucho dissing' forum -- it's mostly old farts who just ride to get away from their families

So you won't get much testosterone coming back your way

As long as the aussies in here understand that I am just taking the piss or having a laugh at everything I do on here I am cool. Its when the ozzie fella's join in the macca bashing that I tone it down a bit

I would like to think I liven up the forum a bit, its all in good fun.

Old people can be a bit forgetful. Simple things like racecraft and legspeed get lost in a haze of beer and blondes over the years. It can be like starting out as a novice all over again when it comes to race technique. And the worst part is that you know as soon as you made that dumb mistake. And there's nothing you can do to change it.

"Anyone got any nachos?"

"Is it time for another beer?"

"Shot!"
