Tour Down Under start list. Is it just me or is the quality of the field deteroiating year by year?

New UCI rules mean they can't invite more than 50% ProTour teams. Mike Turtur, the promoter, was saying he could have got 10 PT teams but for UCI rules.

I think it works well into most big teams schedules, especially the ones not like Disco and T Mob, who don't have the huge budget. It is a good training race, and builds up the base miles. It is not a real race. No onw goes with GC aspirations apart from a few Australians and O'Grady. Turtur and TDU would cover most expenses like plane tickets, and ofcourse the hotel bill, so it is a very cheap training camp. Compare it with training camps in the Middle East or South Africa. These would cost the teams much more. Ofcourse, the entire squad is not coming out. But it is easier to train with a squad in a training camp, or a bunch in a summer race (southern hemisphere) than it is getting out into near freezing temperature in Belgium or anywhere in Europe.

It serves a purpose. But the UCI rules instigated with the Protour means the field is not necessarily decimated, but it is much weaker than it could have been. Hence Turtur got the best teams outside the Protour like Chocolade and Navigators.

yeah...bumped into him at the Provincial a few years ago. Pot in one hand, durrie in the other.....but still instantly recognizable. Was working at The Age or something.

A long was from doing in-race commentary with Phil Liggett during Bank Classic criteriums....

Looks pretty good to me. Turtur was on SBS last night banging on about the 50% Pro Tour limit, tho.

No way. Sat quietly on the wheel admiring their shiny new lo-pro Dura-Ace cranks.

4th time's the charm, Saccy. We had some issues last night with the server.

jock 01-16-06 06:48 PM

Where's Thylo when you need him?

I'll be replacing the road bars that came with the track bike with sprinters bars, but they a likely to be steel. Anything I should know about putting steel bars onto a aluminium stem?

climbo 01-16-06 07:04 PM

nothing to worry about, just make sure you tighten the bolts back up :)

Last night? You mean this morning.

Brian 01-16-06 07:30 PM

The problem started last night. I got to watch both episodes of Law & Order.

badsac 01-16-06 07:40 PM

Eh? You put your interests on hold to moderate this arse product? Surely you'd just do it when you're bored (like when you should be working ;) )?

Brian 01-16-06 07:43 PM

No, late at night it's quiet, and I can actually navigate the forums, rather than moderate.

What offences have you given people a little "holiday" for recently, Repat??

:)

G'day lads. Been a longtime lurker but thought I might finally join up and make a contribution to the renowned and highly respected Think Tank that is the Aussie Thread.....

Climbo: Re Accommodation for the Cwth Games...Not sure what your budget is but there are a couple of hotels that sponsor Cyclesport Victoria. Maybe they would do a discount for a CA licence holder? details on CSV website. Quest Beaumont in Kew might be worth a look too - had to do some research on the matter for work when we had o/seas visitors & found it to be good location without huge price.

Guys,

In the market for a new bike computer (mine doesnt have cadence) just wondered what you guys were using and if you were buying a new one what would you buy?
Thanks

Russ

That info isn't to be discussed. But I can remind everyone that going around the censors to use inappropriate language is not allowed. Neither is multiple usernames. PM me if you have any questions regarding policies.

But are you actively using them all? Because that's a no-no.
