Anyway Russ, you could go all out and buy a Polar, Ciclosports, Garmin, or Timex cyclocomputer/HRM for megabucks ($300-800) and get features like HR, speed, cadence, altitude, temp, data downloads, etc

Or, you could save a few bucks and buy a cheaper HRM. Echowell make one with wireless cadence & wired speed ($160) and a cheaper one with wireless speed and no cadence.

Cheaper again you can get the HRM from Aldi which doesn't have cadence I dont think, but is a steal at $50.

From there you're into cyclocomputers that don't have HRM functionality. They range in price from $10 to $80 and all offer the same basic features: a clock, speed, return trip time, odo, distance, max speed, & avg speed. Only some models will have cadence, and the more expensive ones might offer wireless kits. But essentially they are all the same, and use the same technology that's been around for 20 years.

In the old days there were a few that had problems with water, but doesn't seem to be a problem these days.

Jock, Thanks for the reply.. I think you might have me mixed up with another Russ on the forums..
I already have a seperate Polar HRMr so a combo would be good only one computer on the bike would be good. Ill go down to a LBS at lunch and check it out. was looking in the 100 - 200 range spend wise. so Ill see what I can pick up. My currrent cateye mitty is quite a few years old.... (just like me!) does me well though but time for an upgrade..

Never did hear back from old Hambone. Or this guy, who obviously completed his mission in life and now has nothing left to do:

I use a version of the Aldi one, but it's from Supergo, in the US. We have 3, and they all work well.

531Aussie 01-16-06 08:58 PM

I still use a Cateye Tomo. The good thing is that the wiring kits are so cheap and available that I've now got about 10 kits, so I can switch the same "speedo"* from bike to bike.

by the way, I hope you all did the geeky thing like me and bought a new speedo battery and reset it on new year's eve :p

* I'm gunna start calling it a "speedo" and change the trend right here, right now, so, in 10 years time when everyone calls them a 'speedo', we'll know it started right HERE! :)

In the words of Mick "I hate to be negative, but no."

Of course we watched the young ones, especially the university quiz episode. That tape's a bit worn out :D

jock 01-16-06 09:12 PM

Speaking of young ones, Hitchy didn't drop his now famous New Years greeting in this year! :( Remember last years:

01-02-05, 03:41 PM #4740
Hitchy "Oz ooohhhh my head!.......I found out WAY to late that the
contents of a 15 'C**k sucking cowboy' shooter thingies do not go well
with a slab of crownies & 1/2 bottle of Johnnie walker!...who
knew?....think I'll go back to bed!"

Pure GOLD :roflmao:

I loved that show.

"University Challenge". Episode is "Bambi".
Yeah, probably the best episode, and the first one I saw.

I mate brought over a tape of it from Britain in about late '84, before it was on telly here.
I thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen, and forced everyone I knew to watch that episode.:)

jock 01-16-06 09:23 PM

"Sick" (the episode where everyone has the plague) was bloody funny too

climbo 01-16-06 09:32 PM

a great show, and yes, that episode sticks out as one of the best !

was_bmxer 01-16-06 09:44 PM

The Young Ones, very funny. they all seem to blur into one show now, the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse (sp?) skit seems to stand out for some reason.

"So death, whats new?"

One of the non commercial radio stations in Melb (PBS or RRR) plays a Young Ones sound bite..."Quick, throw another record player on the fire..etc!" quite regularly. Makes me laugh everytime.

531Aussie 01-16-06 10:06 PM

'You said it was your record player.'

'No I didn't, Michael. I said "Let's throw Rik's record player on the fire, that'll be good for a laugh!"

Russ9000 01-16-06 10:11 PM

A bit maybe. As in they're both black! Nah, the Carlton is a lot smoother/less bitter in flavour. I'm no beer coneseur (see can't even spell it ;) ) but I just don;t like Guiness that much over here. Guiness over in the mother country seems to be a nicer more refined taste. Guiness here is to close to Sheaf Stout for my liking. ;)

Hey Saccy, that black sac issue settled down?

I think you might be right about the Carlton Black being a bit easier on the head: I had 5 of them, then 2 Stellas and a Heineken in about 90min on an empty stomach, straight after my ride, and I only had a little headache by midnight :)

Don't know. Haven't been looking. I've learnt it's best not to study the body to much after these exertions, lest you don't like what you find. ;)
