Farkin! I used the be able to do that. On Saturday went for a ride with this dude who was a fair bit better than me. Still I took it fairly easy. HR didn't get above 160. Had some KFC nuggets and chips afterwards cause I was hungry but lazy, then a bit later went and had 4 middies of Old with the old fella and sisters, then had some lunch and one cup of coffee. Anyway, that afternoon, came down with shocking dizzy spells, felt nauseous, and was getting pins and needles in my hands and legs. had a bad headache the next day and sore leg muscles and tricepts. Doctor said I'd dehytrated myself with all those diuretics and was lucky not to do more damage. Told me about a bloke he knew who lost both legs from such behaviour. Sadly forgot to ask him about my black sac. Gah. Anwyay, seems like I'm getting week as piss in my old age. Either that or I'm not drinking enough. ;)

My uncle lived by that rule. Worked well to for 40 years until his kidneys packed it in and he blew up like a puffer fish.

Not likely. Took me all of 1/2 an hour to set up just one!

Standout for me was when Alexi Sayle (cant remember his character) chaps the door and asks Mike if he can us the toilet.
Mike says 'No' & Alexi replys ' Thought so, I Pi$$ed on your garden'

:ROFLMAO:

I've just these last few weeks realised that what I thought was plenty of water was in fact only about 30 freekin % of what I should be consuming on a tough-ish summer ride. I'm still having trouble gettin' enough down even knowing how much I need.
Did 60k, and raced the boat Satdy and raced E/Crk Sundy and was absolutely, totally smashed sundy arvo. I mean 'call an ambulance' wasted. I'm still feeling dodgey today. I felt good satdy nite, must have been the sleep
Glad it rained last nite or I might have been tempted to race Penrith.......... and kill me stupid self.

::thinks:: "might need to have a full check-up and get told I'm old, again" :(

Id love to know how you work that out. Seems like a black art to me. Seems I drink about a biddon of fluid ever 1.5 hours, but that seemingly might not be enough. Went for a 120 km ride last tuesday and tried to drink a shedload only to get sick of drinking 3/4 of the way through. Felt shocking the whole ride to. I definitly need to apply more science to this riding gig. I'm finding out I'm not as bulletproof as I thought. :(

I've recently returned to drinking 'Powerade'. I tried water but it didn't do it for me I just peed a lot and still felt like $#!+. I used to drink about 500ml / hour during a hard two hr ride. (not nearly enough). Now I have that much (500ml) about an hour before I start, 1 to 1.5ltrs over the two hours of riding, then 500ml to 1ltr in the hour after. I still don't think this is enough! Problem is, like you I find it difficult to drink much more than this.
If I sail in the arvo I probably need to consume at least the same again, i.e., before, during and after the two hour race but again I find it very difficult to actually do this. It seems I'm drinking gallons of fluid and it don't feel right some how and in any event I simply can't remember to drink that often. :o As I said earlier I did feel great satdy night but I obviously didn't drink enough sundy, 500ml before, 500ml during and the same after I finished the 40' + 2 lap crit. I consumed about a litre, plus tea etc., during the afternoon but crashed around 2pm. :( Maybe that's just too much Powerade at full strength?? FIIK

Oh I forgot; I rode to 'the creek' and back which probably ads another hour of riding but at a pretty casual pace.

531Aussie 01-17-06 03:54 AM

yeah. Also, at race pace, gastric emptying is reduced, which is when the crucial ratio of carbs to water come in, yada, yada

anyway, Tour Down Under highlights very late tonigh on ch10

Mcewen took stage 1, or the crit stage which is neutralised as stage 1.

I'm glad you're happy with your purchase!

To the rest of you guys discussing hydration, you're made. 500ml/hour? I drink 3 litres a day, just at the office. I need to hydrate and watch my blood sugar. For any kind of hard riding, I need a Powerade or similar for every 2 bottles of water. Berny, drink cold water with a bit of lemon for flavour throughout the day, every day. You can't just load up out of the blue. If you guys all start drinking more water on a regular basis, you'll be in better shape when you train hard or compete. It also pays to take a good look at your salt and mineral intake, as well as blood sugar.

Cheers.

hey Ed, did you know there's a 25th anniversary Leader? 2120g just for the frame -- what a brick! :)
