Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm waiting for a full suspension Citroen MTB, where you just pedal and barely feel the bumps while the suspension absorbs it all. The pump and the green nitrogen spheres might add a little weight though....

From what I hear, it might not be much of an issue.

Anyone else drive their vehicle like their bike, meticulously avoiding potholes and irregularities? Maybe I am too compulsive about it.

Touring bike is loaded on the local truck for delivery to Hellgate Cyclery. It’s a throwback shop that is not open on the weekends, even during the summer. The people who work there look like the kind of guys who spend their weekends shredding the gnar.

Doctors in the US are not legally obligated to jump in when a person is having a medical emergency. In fact, we've seen cases where they have and then faced lawsuits.

The AMA does expect doctors to help in such situations, but it is a code of conduct and not a legal issue.

Besides, even if his oath said he had to do it, the person benefitting from his actions would still owe (at least) a huge debt of gratitude. Just because you are outside of a typical clinical situation doesn't mean you are deserving of free medical care.
Can't imagine datlas refusing to help or expecting anything in return. I'd bet money that his only concern was making sure the guy got medically appropriate care.

I'm not suggesting that you believe otherwise.

Possibly. But the big July 4th concert and fireworks are also close to my house. Christina Aguilera is headlining. And it’s a Saturday.

BTW the cyclist I helped, I am told, is alive and heavily sedated and on a ventilator in the ICU. My understanding is they are letting his heart, brain, and body recover from the event, and in 1-2 days they will lighten the sedation and see if he wakes up. I hope he does.

Should I get a percolator for my next coffee maker? I have a grinder for coarse grind which is suggested plus I have a gas stove to control perk. Also, no consumables like filters which is green adjacent. I like like a robust cup.

Thoughts?

One of my biggest regrets many years ago was cycling near UW and passing an overweight middle aged male almost stumbling in his running clothes with a bright red face, looking like he was gasping for air. I should have stopped and helped him. I can only imagine what happened and hope he got help and is still alive.

You could try out the flavor by making good coffee and then pouring it into a saucepan and boiling it for 5 minutes.

since you were there you gave him a chance. If not, a bad ending is likely.

When the time came you stepped up and did your best.

You could always go thrifty and start making cowboy coffee. I did for about a year or so, after ye olde Gevalia drip machine went tits up.

Now that you are retired, you have a little more time on your hands. I highly recommend the French Press. I use the James Hoffman method (steep for 4 minutes, then stir and steep another 4-5 minutes). It takes a bit of time but even a dummy like me can make amazing coffee this way.

I’ll tell you one thing, if everybody in the group knows he’s a doctor and he just rode by without helping, it would not be a very friendly place to ride in the future. The pressures and expectations of society would make it hard to ignore a situation where he is clearly the most qualified in the group, and just ride on by.
