Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My nerve issues subsided enough to do a fun little tempo ride this morning. 72 miles, 7300' climbing, and just a couple tenths off of a 19mph average. The ride abruptly ended when I smoked the sidewall on my pricey Aero 111 tire, luckily that happened just around the corner from my house.

On a positive note, I managed to feel like I was out on Safari:

I had the weirdest sidewall puncture on my BMC last weekend. I had the rear wheel off and in my lap while running a rag through each of the sprockets when out of nowhere, I hear a small hissing come from the tire. While I was holding it. Move it around until I find there's a teeny tiny puncture in the sidewall with some scuffing around it, must have ridden a bit too close to something. Thing is, last time I rode it was at least two months ago and it held air the whole time since. Moved the wheel so sealant could get into the puncture and I got lucky, the stuff didn't spray out and I had just aired up the tires before the leak made itself known. Tiny bit of sealant poked through and immediately dried, no mess.

It swelled up and turned green, then some other colors. Been hobbling around the house using a cane that Mrs John had. frack

I blame this current flare up of issues on getting back into running for the season and doing too long of runs. I think my cycling fitness is my own worst enemy in regards to running, I go for a run and think to myself how easy it feels, but then my lower body feels thrashed once I cool down from the run.
I had sciatica and can really sympathize. What helped and ultimately stopped it was an ultrasound guided cortisone shot with the longest needle I had the displeasure or seeing. But it really worked for me, so I would do it again. If it reoccurs.

Hope yours resolves and stays away,

Best of luck on killing it and hitting your target.

That's a weird one. Mine was very evident what happened, I just hit a big ol' chunk of asphalt that was sitting up above the rest of the pavement. I'm normally pretty good at scanning the pavement, but I was trying to close out my ride up one last climb and was too busy staring at my power meter. Next thing I know, a big clunk and hissing air...Dynaplugged it and then found out the battery on my e-pump was dead. Fortunately I was only a 5 minute walk from home.

Good info, something for me to "file away" for the future. I've been feeling really good after the fitting, even though my hip angle actually closed up even more.

Part of my issues last year, is due to work and life circumstances, I wasn't able to really do my off-season strength training. I felt like I was fighting with injuries all season long...my power on the bike rebounded well, but the joints and connective tissue just weren't quite at the same level.
