Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't know about the cigarette company part, but it's obviously true that process food is engineered so people buy more.

Anyway, in closing he called me "Big Dog."

Can someone in the 145-150 range qualify as "Big Dog?"
I dunno, I think 150lbs is pretty big for a dog?

Maybe I should close this one and start a new one. That seems to rekindle interest. Let’s call it Confliction.

The weather said cloudy with a possible passing sprinkle, so we went on the ride. After 5 miles it started raining fairly heavily. At the rest stop we were already soaked and shivering. We took a shortcut home but the ride home was shivery, wet, and not much fun. Although I was wearing a long sleeve “windbreaker” this was not waterproof and with temps around 50 I was flirting with hypothermia. My three friends were such troopers, I expect they were as cold as I was, but no one complained.

Mother Nature is indeed a cruel mistress, especially when she pokes her thumb in the eye of the weather forecast.

I stop for lunch today and while eating outside, because unlike @datlas, my day was sunshine and 75º but I digress, I notice I have no tool/tube/repair bag on my bike. Oh-oh. Made it back to the car but the bad feelings are there that something will happen.

Since I cannot always trust my memory to switch tool bags between bikes, each bike has one. It’s bad enough when riding in the winter and driving the bike to a remote location to remember all the gear/kit.

Yep. I rode an old bike a week ago and rather than set up a bag, I grabbed the one off this bike. Forgot to replace it.

I found a free livestream for the mens' race and watched the last 20K or so. Couldn't find a stream for the Femmes.

Since I have so many bikes and ride most or all of them, I have a routine for setting each bike up for riding - Garmin, saddle bag, front light, rear radar/light, frame pump if one will fit, then pump up the tires.

The ONE THING I will tend to forget is bottles, because if I'm going to drink a sports drink, I often make up the bottles and put them in the fridge to keep cool. One time I got 7 miles into a ride on a hot day, found I'd forgotten bottles and had to go home and fetch them - not gonna ride 4 hours with temps in the 80s with no water!

No. 1 public market in the country? You guessed it. I’ve got another shift there on Saturday.

We like it but it’s kinda spoiled by its success. I sometimes prefer the 9th Street Italian Market. Now I am craving some Sarcone’s tomato pie!
