Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Road ID tags

I just saw this link in someone's sig, decided to look into it. After my accident i was asked for my name address yada yada info like 5 times, really would have been nice to have some ID on me. Considering it's 60$ to have your driver's liscence replaced around here i'm not crazy about letting that leave my wallet.

https://www.roadid.com/id.asp

Dog tag, wrist, ankle, or shoe models. The latter of the three being only 19.99, or 15.99 with coupon code PCAC245 meaning that it won't even be taxed for us canadians. And free letter mail shipping.

I think it's a pretty good little system, dog tag probably wouldn't be for me since i wear a heart rate monitor, and i haven't worn anything on my wrist's for years cause it freaks me out. So i got the ankle one.

Custom ingraved stainless steel with 6 lines of text, 23 characters each.

Anyone else have one of these? Do you just carry regular state ID?
Your welcome to anyone that take's advantage of the above coupon.

Derek.

- Wally Worlds used to have these machines in every store where you could, for $5, get a custom engraved aluminum tag... they have since been removed... but:

- i found 'em in Petsmarts... pay the cashier and get a token... go over to the machine and have a custom tag engraved... you can stick the smaller one in your bike shoe or bike bag with your house/auto key...

- about $6 IIRC...

I just keep an expired driver's license in my bike bag. All the info is correct, the picture still looks like me (more or less), and if I lose it, it's not the end of the world.

I've got a set of dog tags from https://www.poundmaster.com/ They have my name, driver's license number, blood type and medication allergy info on one tag the other has my emergency numbers. It'll be a good thing if I ever get taken out while on a ride.
The tags can accommodate up to 5 lines of information with up to 14 spaces per line. If they squeeze, they can get 15 spaces in the middle 3 lines.
Single Dog Tags with a 24 inch neck chain are priced at $7.00 each.
Double Tag sets consist of 2 tags and one 24 inch neck chain and one 4 inch connector chain and are priced at $12.00 per set.
Silencers that fit around the tags can be ordered in Black, Red, Yellow, Orange, Blue and Green

Silencers cost is $1.50 per set of 2

I have a roadID, wrist band version, actually jusst got it yesterday. Since i typically don't run with any ID, I figured it would be a good idea to have some on me since I have medical issues. When I bike, I use a camelback, so it is no big deal to carry my wallet. Be advised for those who carry their ID's in a seat pack or other place, if you are seriously injured, EMS may not spend much time to look for an ID hidden in a seat pack or inside your helmet etc.. Also depending on the accident you can be seperated from where your ID is too.

Hopefully your license doesn't have your Social Security number on it. Losing that can cause an identity theft problem.

I have a Road ID (wristband) and wear it on every ride. Good purchase as I'm diabetic. I'm certainly not a safety nazi by any means, but I think it's a good idea for most of us.

I guess I'm low rent

I keep my phone and a couple of bucks inside a Ziploc bag in my jersey pocket, and I just wrote all my info on the bag with a Sharpie.

I have the Roadid ankle version. It is a well made item and they ship in about a week. The reflective section is a nice feature. I opted for the ankle version as it can double as a pant clip for those times when I'm just making a short trip to the store.

Carrying ID with you when cycling is a great idea. RoadID is way expensive for what you get. Comparable products cost $5; may not be as pretty but this isn't jewelry.

I place a photo copy of driver’s license, health card and written emergency phone number on a piece of paper in zip lock bag my jersey pocket. I was told to write void on the driver’s license and health card just in case an officer wanted to be prick.

Paramedics are trained to check around your neck and wrists for medic alert bracelets.
(Forget that I.C.E. on your cell phone email you got. It's bogus.)

I went to my local army surplus store and got a lightweight dog tag for four dollars, and put just the info on there I wanted. No social, but blood type, allergies, and a few people to call.

Also put my name on there. Not the official, legal, driver's license version that nobody addresses me by, but the middle one I want the medics to loudly call me by while I'm unconcious.

Make an address in your phone list on your cell phone ICE (In Case Of Emergency) and put the phone number you want emergency personell to call. I saw that on tv the other day. The local station had the firemen at the local station mention ICE so apparently its not bogus in Louisiana.

I have the wristband by that company and use it all the time. Like a helmet, you never need it unless something happens, but wouldn't want to be without the thing in just such an instance.

I never thought about a pet store, i realize that 16$ is a bit pricey but it comes ready to go with a nice velcro strap that's reflective, and i don't have to mess around with anything. I'm always trying to find way's to save a buck or two here and there and it usualy involves me running around from place to place for the better part of a day. Sometimes it's nice to just order something and BAM it's ready to go when you get it.

One thing that would be cool is having a velcro strap that reads "Road ID - Road ID - Road ID" all the way around in refelctive letters instead of just that solid white stripe in the middle, kinda help out paramedics if the worst ever happened, although i'm sure they'd find it eventually even if it was the ankle one.

That or they could just switch 2 letters around and have it read Road DI Road DI Road DI

If you don't have time to visit a pet store, this place will make army-style dog tags for $7 each or $12 for a set of 2: https://www.poundmaster.com/ .

Thanks, but i'm fairly certain dog tags on a chain would play havic on my heart rate monitor. I'm also not crazy about things around my neck, almost as much as things around my wrist's.

Well Im an EMT and I carry my cell phone in my jersey pocket with "ICE" on the address and my driver licence in the back zipper jersey pocket. Any time I try to respond to a call I try to look anywhere possible to find the identification of the person and what allergies to medications because that might be life or death...Just make it easy for them to find and they will find it...laters

I think you're wrong about the HRM. There's not much more metal in a dog tag than in a metal jersey zipper.

If you really want to, you can always mount the tag to a bracelet or shoelace.

I meant the tags moving around and hitting the chest strap. Flapping jersey's on really really windy days have made my heart rate monitor go nuts (240bpm! lol) having a set of metal tags flapping against it would probably be even worse

Or just buy the Road ID that comes with the velcro ankle bracelet

i wear a roadID dog tag around my neck.... i carry a COPY of my driver's license and insurance card.... and i did add ICE to the address book of my phone to hubby's cell phone and our home phone... i already had both numbers in there... it didn't hurt me to add ICE to them.... home is easy enough to identify... but if they should try to use the phone to call someone... and hubby's out riding... they'll at lease know who else to call when "home" doesn't answer!

I have the ankle version since I find it more comfortable for open-water swimming than having something on my wrist. I've been very happy with it, and thankfully, haven't needed it yet.
