Well a bit of a look about and I couldn't find that spec for any cheaper. Not saying that it isn;t out there, but that's not a terrible price. Don't know if they do any closeout sales on the 2005 models because the 2006 stuff is out soon, for a month or two yet.

Just got back from blighty. The press has been totally hysterical over the ashes - I suppose we so rarely win anything they get carried away. They were good games to watch though and I normally only watch ODIs. Daily coverage of the Vuelta was good too - I wish they did Eurosport over in yankland.

I enjoyed seeing our yobbos getting whooped; they needed it. They were all getting far too cocky, strutting around, chewing gum, thinking they were Viv Richards :p

You should see the Aussies whining on that cricket forum

hmmm....good question

jock 09-17-05 04:25 AM

Well, I've raced my first track event and it's bloody brilliant fun. Even crashing during warmup (front wheel washout) seemed interesting at the time. Apparently pine and brand new tires (ie. unscrubbed) don't go together.

I have a lot to learn, even after spending three summers scooting around the steep walls of Newcastle Velodrome every day after school!

Oh yeah, and my quads are letting me know I'm alive today! :D

Congratulations, Jock. Hope you enjoy your free tour of "The Pain Factory".

Thanks Expat. And Berny, I think Expat was onto something...

Today's ride was a casual 90km with 20km+ of climbs. My legs complained bitterly on the warmup, still full of delicious lactate. Then on the first climb they carried on like a pair of kids in the back seat of the car on a 1000km road trip. However I'd promised them a nice long ride, so there was nothing I could do but administer a couple of backhanders (up a gear in cycle speak) filled with genuine love. They soon 'shut-the-hell-up-alright' and from there it was a nice ride until I caught up with the lads from Peleton Sports.

After playing the hero on the climb outta Hawksbury River I quickly ran out of juice. The long-long climb out of Mooney Creek was agony in a granny gear and worse was to to come later. I tried my hand on the rollers at 'Bike Week' festivities on the Gosford waterfront and had to give up after only 3 mins. My 'opponent' was not male.

To cap the day off my gait now resembles that of a 90 yr old who forgot their cane. I'm hoping tomorrow will bring an end to the pain. Someone sensible please remind me to warm down after each race next Friday night!

LOL, I thought you normally walked like that! Wish I had hung around for your stint on the rollers.

I did about 75km with Climbo on Saturday only to find him taking off and doubling back just to get a workout :o Ah the reality of being out with someone who can actually ride!!!

To make the humilitation worse my knee packed in at 3/4 time. not sure if its old injury come back, dodgy bike position since I moved stuff around or my skinny legs werent expecting to grind up Wards hill!
Limped home and spent the arvo on the sofa with an icepack!

Still, I could have been lying in bed... Doh!

 I need to get some sun

HDTVKSS 09-18-05 06:38 PM

ah yes sources of pain. had a major OTB excursion on sunday. major bruising over both hands, a sizable chunk out of my left ankle and bark off everywhere :(

top if off a black dog ran out infront of me in the dark on the way back from my parents killing it (poor thing) and totalling my car :(

some days you shouldnt get out of bed.......

climbo 09-18-05 06:52 PM

sharp looking bike jock, very nice ! I suppose you'll be upgraded after last week's performance :)

HDTVKSS - what is that acronym for? That IS a bad day.

Yeah, it gets me around. I'm hoping for an upgrade, but I might be left with my L-plates on for the last week.

The acronym is plain as day: he loves his digital telly :p

Sheesh. Dunno what's worse, the OTB event or the prang!!

HDTVKSS 09-18-05 07:06 PM

HDTVKSS was ( is?) my car. HDT - Holden Dealer Team VK ( 84 Model) SS.

Both were about equally bad. except in the OTB incident the bike got out of it without a scratch, cant say so muhc for the car.... feel sorry for that damn dog and its family :(

OTB was almost bad enough for me to consider giving the XC thing away and concentrating on road riding. On the other hand, part of me ownt let it beat me...

Agree, nice bike Jock. may head down there with the missus on fri night i you guys are running and have a bit of a look.

FYI - final track night this Friday at DGV, Paul Craft is trying to organise a mini-bus down from the coast area (with bike trailer etc.). I'm in for it, if anyone else wants to go racing or not, tell Paul and if there is enough people, he'll get it sorted out. Good idea if you plan to have a few beers after the race at the presentation. :)

I'm already booked, bird-flu-boy sounds like he's coming down as well. He's been off looking at track bikes this morning :D

climbo 09-18-05 08:00 PM

yeah, I see that, LBS said the Large Avanti would fit him like a glove. NOT !

jock 09-18-05 08:02 PM

New crit bike has Shimano 540's on it. They come standard with an ugly spoke guard the size of a dinner plate. Any reason why I shouldn't remove it if the rear dereilleur is setup properly?

another new bike !! Well sir, you had better remove that thing, you can save soooooo many grams and be super fast, and it's just plain ugly.
