C'mon berny. You've got another day or so to rustle up a nice track bike :)

Who's this guy? I've forgotten his name already! He's funny as, and loves his cycling.

Fellas,

For those of you with a remote interest in mtb-ing, my mate took some shots of us last weekend at the Melbourne 12hr Enduro.

jock 09-19-05 06:26 PM

Looks like you had a fun day in the sun. So how'd you go? And what's with the missing bits of bark?!?

climbo 09-19-05 06:57 PM

Arete sc, is that a Scandium frame?

climbo 09-19-05 07:37 PM

Lookin forward to it too. Been a while.

climbo 09-19-05 08:23 PM

getting some practice?

pshaw 09-19-05 08:31 PM

Yep, hey u think i need to change gearing for track? 48x15 or just give it a go?

Are you allowed to run 2 sprockets on the same wheel (flip/flop)?

climbo 09-19-05 08:37 PM

48x15 is plenty for your first outing !!

I think you can but unless you have a fixed both sides, you can unscrew the flop side while applying back pressure in slowing the bike down. You also need the chain length so you could only go one cog different anyway.

Yep, it's Scandium, with a GXR downtube and my own blend of tubing throughout. Really love the ride - super responsive, heaps stiff between the headtube and BB, but is still compliant everywhere else. 1600g on the dot too, which is nice for such a big frame (20" ctr to top, 25.3" top tube)

It's a miracle I had no mechanicals as I was putting the thing together the night before!

We came 19th out of 34 2-man teams, so we didn't do too bad for our first 12hr race. Actually, we would've come 11th if I'd had done my 6th lap like I was planning, but the lights I borrowed ran out of juice half way through my 5th lap and I had to do half of it in the dark!!!!

Injuries? One crack of the knee on a rock, and a leg that looks like a prop from a horror movie - a bocky bush jumped out and tackled my leg. ;) (Thanks heaps to the guy that pulled me out, too. What a champ.)

That's Mike Wilson. Strange dood. Wanted to sell me a bike earlier this year but until I get rid of the Orbea I'm not spending anymore $$$ on bikes.
Bloke beside him (just pipping him on the line), now he is a real nice guy :D

jock 09-20-05 04:08 PM

Mike's not strange, he just has a different version of normal than the rest of us! :)

Not Mike Wilson, 5-time Giro rider??? I think 8th overall in 1985.....

jock 09-20-05 05:04 PM

Dunno. His voice sounds like it used to be a bit cultured. Either that or he's an expat Brit

[EDIT] Nope, he's about 30 years older than that particular Mike Wilson :D

DocRay 09-20-05 06:32 PM

I saw a great T-shirt today: no kangaroos in Austria.

climbo 09-20-05 06:49 PM

very good Doc, which side of the country are you in?

I like the VB ad over here, "the World's only edible National emblem" :)

Rabobank has signed Australian sprinter Graeme Brown for next season. The 26-year-old dual Olympic gold medallist has signed for one year, coming from Italian squad Ceramica Panaria. Brown has been riding for the Italian squad for four years, and in 2005 posted five stage wins - all coming at the Tour de Langkawi.

Team manager Theo the Rooij said, "We think Graeme Brown is a sprinter that hasn't found his best yet. We'll arrange for Graeme to start slowly within the team, and gradually build up as a rider for the future through a good programme."

pshaw 09-20-05 08:23 PM

Have I mentioned I was once signed with RaboBank in the UK, Europe & Aus?

Unfortunately it was working in I.T.. :roflmao:

Distinct lack of goodies floating around... I had hoped there would be free jerseys sitting next to the water cooler!

ed073 09-20-05 08:43 PM

I used to cash travellers cheques at my local Rabobank in Hilversum. I'm such a cycling tragic I kept them...
