Toyota would never waste its hard earned yen on GM and Iran isn't going to burn anything. Except its diplomatic bridges with the entire planet which will of course only hurt Iran in the long run. But that's their problem isn't it? Friggin idiots. The need nuclear weapons like Lance Armstrong needs more Tour de France trophies.

Personally I don't like Treks because I don't like the way they ride. I feel there are a lot of other frames that ride a hell of a lot better than a Trek. I happen to sell, ride, very very strongly believe in and live and die by one of those brands but that isn't the point. Lance happens to ride a Trek but what most people tend to forget is that guy could jump on just about any bike and win.

Another thing I don't like about Trek is that they have relied on their marketing skills instead of focusing on constant innovation and improvement. I guess this is a good business practice, when you've got a winner (Lance) stick with it. I'm just not caught up in a lot of the hype that surrounds the bikes. If they rode well, I would say it, but I don't think much of the ride on the high end Trek road bikes like the Madone, 5200, etc (I'm talking specifically about road bikes here, their mountain bikes might be the greatest thing ever but I wouldn't know).

You really are kidding aren't you? (Prelude, no particular bashing intended) So Cannondale, Giant, Specialized are names that set them apart?? I am very happy with my Trek, and have ridden many other bikes as well. I am very proud that it is made in the US, which most other manufacturers can not claim. I spent over 5K on a Trek, and so far, approx 3K it has been everything I hoped for.

I ride a 1999 Trek 2100 almost daily. For the most part its stock, aside of pedals, seat and accessories. The 2100 frame is Alpha AL with Carbon seat stays and front fork. I do endurance and brevet style riding. This bike has been very dependable. I rarely have problems on the road other than a flat once in a while. I do stop to help people fix there snob bikes all the time. I bought this bike used. It was raced in criteriums till 2002 when the owner want to upgrade to an all carbon frame. The original owner removed the racing components and restored it to orginal. So the drive line had little miles on it. So I know this bike has proven to me its quality. I also have a 4300. I did change the drive line to Deore. I've beatin the hell out of that bike. Its like a Timex. Treks are solid quality bikes in my book. A Timex will tell you the time same as a Rolex. I dont need a bike I can brag about to the mindless. I need a bike that I can depend on. Via La Trek!

Trek must be doing something right. Don't any of the Trek bashers ever realize that you don't get to be the #1 hi-line bike company in America by making crappy products?

I agree! It's all in fun. Initially, I thought you were a very young one, whose experience had only reached the counter at the local video game store. Don't take eveything I say to heart. Sometimes provocation is the impetus for real thought; at least that's what I tell my students in lecture. Thanks for the encouraging thought in an otherwise dismal world. Wow, this is interesting. I do a search for "Trek 5000" cause I'm thinking about buying one and stumble across this thread. I'm returning to biking after living in the country on rock-road and having my bike hanging in the rafters for many moons (I'm way more in to auto's/trucks...and the Chevy/Ford example, well, I can go on for days on that one).

All that said, I will probably buy a Trek in the coming weeks / months. Just got the wife a 1500 and all the goodies (computer, shoes, etc.). And I think it's time to retire my 1988 Trek 330. It's been a great bike for me through the years. Probably maxed out in college at around 100 miles per week, but that was pure recreational / fitness biking. Now I have the time and roads/trails to take up biking once again.

I think it would be a blast to build my own, but do not have the skills and knowledge at this point in time (I am skilled enough to restore my 1972 Chevy K-20, and I've just finished building my third computer, so I got that going for me).

In the world of biking, I want a name brand that I can trust, that has "brand loyalty" with me. Trek has that in my book, well, mainly becasue my 330 has given me many trouble free miles. I could really care less what Lance rode. I want to buy a complete bike and put it on the road, period.

So when you ride pass me as I'm gasping for air, whether it be on my 330 or something quite a bit newer, you can bash my choice of bikes all you want...cause you know I won't be catching up to you any time soon. I'm out.

Actually the problem is that 80% of the posters are in their teens and twenties, and are highly susceptible to groupthink and other silliness. Once they grow up a little they'll stop thinking Taiwanese bikes are kewl...

When I bought my Trek X01 it was due to the fit, ride, comfort, out of box quality (for what I was looking to spend and do with it) price, etc.. and I couldn't be happier. If anything happened to it I'd get another one without question. I love that people go and buy other bikes just because they don't want to get a Trek - ooooooo big corporate giant... eeewwwwww... Lance armstrong... trendy... brand name everyone knows... oooooooo..... (say that like a little whining school girl) - it just makes me ride faster and harder when I buzz past your [lower backside] on the trail AND on the street! MUHAHAHAHAAA!!!! TREK RULES!!!

Anyway, I RIDE TO LIVE (cycling alleviates the many medical issues I have)... not 'ride because the logo on my bike is cooler than yours' ... even though it is
