Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"OCP is a myth"

Riiiiight. A little while back I was riding in town on my fixed gear and pulled up at a red light with a guy on a Serrotta or something ridiculous like that. Coincidentally, there's a Starbucks on this corner. The guy is straddling his ridiculous bike in full Red Bull kit, but the best part is he's 50+ pounds overweight and his huge gut is stretching the spandex to its limit. I said hi, but he wouldn't even give me a nod in return- just looked at me, my non-OCP kit (or lack thereof), and definitely non-OCP fixie and went back to looking straight ahead. When the light turned green, he tried to sprint away to show me that the fat belly was in fact just remote-accessible guad muscle, but he either forgot he left it in a masher gear or had no balanace to begin with because he almost fell over and barely missed a parked car.

OCP lives.

Not myth. Painful reality.

Besides the fact that Pcad is living proof of OCP.

Here's a clue: an acquaintance of mine opened a bike shop in Manhattan Jan. 1 of 2006. By October of 2006 he had surpassed $1 million in gross sales and he was the WORLD's LARGEST SEROTTA DEALER. His average bike sale price: approx. $5500.

OHHHHH SEEEEEE PEEEEEEEEE

Say it with me.

Can I get a witness?

I liked this reply better, Pcaddy. I think it had a little more of the indignation undertone that I've come to expect/hope to see from you. It got bonus points for having a baseball reference, and a dig, at that.

That's in Beaverton, OR, is it not? Corner of Murray and Scholls Ferry Rd?

I get coffee there, but not on my bike. After our group ride, many from my club hang out at Long Bottoms in Hillsboro.

BTW: That Starbucks is in the middle of yuppy central. Are all OCPs yuppies?

so, from reading this thread I am to gather that there are places in the country where it is ok to go for a ride on an aluminum bike wearing a plain colored jersey? I just started riding about 1 1/2 years ago in the bay area and I can't imagine such a thing

Can I be OCP now please? I ride a titanium bike, and I have been known to stop at Starbucks midride. I would drive to Starbucks if I had a car, honest.

But I don't do team jerseys. Disqualification in a single swoop?

I don't get it. Why is it that just because a lot of cyclist stop here, it automatically indicates that it is some sort OCP gathering? I stop here rather frequently, be it my turn around point, or a pit stop for a ride up to Bear Mountain, and I don't see myself and plenty of other riders up there being OCP. The R.S. is an ideal stop for cyclist as they provide free cold water and pleasant restrooms along with some tasty snacks. I hate paying three bucks at a deli elsewhere to fill up my bottles, so I just wait until I get to the Spoon. Sure I show up on my carbon bike in full Assos kit, however I have my reasoning. (As for those who need to know, I race, hence the carbon bike, and as for the asoos, as a 19 years young cyclist, I found it a priority to keep myself comfy as I intent to be cycling for another 60 years down the road and hopefully a father too.) Just sayin' I think your generalization is a bit off base there.
