Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bummer. We will have to employ someone to bring a camera and take pictures of all the hills you'll be missing .

I'll try to bring my girlfriend's new point-and-shoot along. She's never know its gone until it's returned with salt all over it.

I ride all those roads regularly. Combining 244 with Bigelow Hollow will net you some good elevation gains. I love coming south on 89 from 190..... long flats and downhills... you can just scream.

Is it as simple as unscrewing the limit screw a half turn or so ?? Or, the cable is too tight and needs a bit of slack to allow it to travel a tiny bit more. I would think the guys at the shop would have checked that, but you never know. Sometimes mechanics check things on the bike stand and they work fine, but don't always road test. I'm just up the street from Cycle Fitness .... bring it by at lunch and I'll take a look.

I did about 3500 ft this morning before work in 55 miles. Rode from Bridgewater, through Roxbury, Washington and Kent. Lots of nice hilly backroads !!

That 29T cassette looking pretty good right about now, eh?

I think you'll be hurting during this too. See...you'll have to do both weekends, because you'll be stronger for the second ride

29 !? Nah, I used the 39-23 except the steep part of Skiff Mtn road in Kent where I "cracked" and used 39-25

I'll familiarize the route for week 2 that way . Hey, I have yet to push my bike up a hill so I never take the easy way out. Even at 230lbs when I started riding I always muscled up the strength to push hard.

I succumbed to the 36x27 through Bigelow Hollow. What I lack in power, I make up for in excuses

We need to get together and ride..

I don't get as far up as Kent & Bridgewater but I love riding in Woodbury, Roxbury, Washington, & Litchfield. I used to live in Woodbury..I miss it still.
Oxford's nice though..
Plenty o' hills !!!

Haha, I've done that a couple times too, and it's definitely a bear of a climb. The road surface is pretty rough too which doesn't help anything. But a great workout. And an absolute scream to descend the west side of BH.

We may very well have been by each other, I was riding a route from N. Woodstock though BH to 89 & 190, down to 44, then into Eastford on 44 and back into Woodstock on 198 a couple times a week before I was sidelined for the last couple weeks with some knee pain. I have a couple friends at Uconn, so I've ridden down there a fair bit too.
