Cork Bar Tape
I have tan Cinelli cork tape on my Bridgestone 400 and was wondering about adding shellac to it. If you shellac cork tape like Rivendell says you can do to get that leather look does it make the cork tape rock hard or leave it soft. Has anyone tried any kind of suede die on cork to see what it looks like. I want to get a darker look to match the saddle and I like cork bar tape.

Cork bar tape as is works just fine. Find a color that works for the bike and buy a dozen rolls.
With half a dozen flats per year, half a dozen dropped chains, that bar tape needs is going to look bad pretty soon - change needed several times a year at probably every 2K miles. Some of us just don't have the time to spend on fussing with tape.

I used amber shellac on natural cork bar tape this spring and it matched a Brooks honey saddle quite well (a much better match than the Brooks saddle and my @$$). It scuffs pretty easily. It's not hard or stiff in any way. I've heard it can turn white after rain, but I had it on the spare tire rack driving thru 300 miles of rain and it was fine. It's really cheap to try, go for it.
