I often wonder what it is about some Seppos that think that the other 3 billion people in the world think that their egotistical, gregarious, ridiculous imperialism/capitalism is anything but a laughable parody.

May as well just tattoo "I'm a completely self-important w@nker" on your forehead :

The ancient Greeks and Romans would be rolling in their graves. Although the Romans got a little too carried away.

Nonsense. There's a major sporting event on in Melbourne every other week attracting big crowds, be it Tennis, F1, MotoGP, cricket, footy, NRL, wogball, golf, swimming, athletics (ok, those last two are scraping the barrel:D). They got 96,000 for a game of Rugby at the MCG one year and we don't even friggin play it nor does it rate on the tele. Melburnians watch just about anything - except cycling.

Nobody went to the Commonwealth Games RR because Australians barely give two ****s about cycle racing, not through some imaginery spectator illness you made up. For crying out loud it was one of about only 4 free events for the whole games and the only one with any spectator excitement and they still didn't come and watch it.

Brilliant marketing campaign idea.

Billboard of Vicky Pendleton's arse all around Melbourne, with the caption "She likes it hard and fast" on it.

Could do the same for the blokes, except the sign says, "He rides hard and fast"

Instant crowd. :p:D

I like the way you think Gus, except for the gay bit about the blokes.

VP is hot but I'm a bit partial to Sarah Ulmer, so she should nude up, get some pics taken then get em up on billboards.

Just to change topics for a moment.

Any of you Vic guys done or planning on doing the Coleraine Tour in April or the Tour of Bright in November? I'm wondering what to expect compared to the racing over here, which I've been told is pretty tame by comparison.

ohhh me me me!

Both are Tough.

Coleraine= dead, narrow roads short steep hills, baron landscape and hot dry wind. You'll be getting to know the gutter pretty well

Bright= wide roads, decent surfaces, big climbs, (last stage thise year did hotham a nice 30k berg), less wind fast descending, if you taste the gutter in bright, you've probably already broken your collarbone.

You'll get bigger and better fields but compared to club racing, Coleraine is no cakewalk. But neither attract many top national riders so they're still on a state level...

I'll be at both! Yehhaa.

oh and both are at the time of the year where it can be real hot or real cold.

Awesome, thanks for the info!

Sounds like they'll both be quite a challenge. I'm looking forward to the Tour of Bright most, as at 5'11" and 64 kg, you can probably guess where my skills lie ;)

You wouldn't happen to be the infamous hill-climbing Mr. Lovelock of cycle2max fame by any chance, would you? Your hill climb times are impressive indeed.

Complete rubbish. You dont eat babies like I do. The reason we dont get massive crowds is because 1) its difficult to give the consumer a wholistic perspective on the event when its on an open road and 2) you dont give them what they want (give them a vibrant exciting environment with easy access to piss, some vague idea of a sporting event going on around them and prospects of getting a root).

It has nothing to do with Melbournians having no interest in the sport. Its just they expect a world class show every week. They are the most giving sporting consumers in the world but they are devilishly savvy. If you dont bring a good game to town they will tell you to fark off. Rightly so. The other factor at play is the communication channels used to provide a compelling sporting context (i.e the euros are here to pull our pants down lets get behind our boys and tell em to get farked you ****s).

Oh and dont try and sell a Melbournian a sporting event for 'free'. They will immediately dismiss it as a POS not worth seeing anyway.

Mate, my best times up Norton Summit are on the order of 4.5 W/kg for 15 minutes, so you make me look like a friggin snail ;)

I'm going to be doing as much racing as possible in Vic this year, so I'm sure I'll bump into all of you guys at some point. Just take it easy on me, I've only been doing this for less than a year :p

Ha. I'm from the 'Chessum' school of thought which goes a little like this 'jono and all other skinny rakes can go an get farkeddddddd cos I aint chasing ya at coleraine or bright.' :p

Come and play in the crosswinds. Although having said that you would smash me there too so on second thought just plain piss orf lol. :p

Jono L 01-10-08 06:46 AM

Bah, Coleraine is for the big gear crunchers! You want crosswinds you'll get them alright!

I hate crosswinds. Memories of Tour of Tassie:eek:
