@Soloist - Your bike keeps getting better and better. How is the Red front shifting working for you?

I got mine with very low miles used for just over a grand off of a trigeek. Gotta love those guys. I wish I would of gotten an 808 rear, and I might one day, but for the price I can't complain.

Alas, a pretty girl I am not... It was an obscure comedic reference. That's ridiculous about the Zipps! I'm keeping my eyes peeled for some 303s/404s...or Carbones (clincher). Curiously, what would be the reason for an 808 on a road bike? I wouldn't change a thing on that S2!

I've only ridden it a few times since the upgrade sadly. Been recovering from a concussion, and it sucks. Thanks for the compliment. It does seem to shift quicker, and more precise. It also appears that dropping the chain is impossible now. I like the new FD a lot so far.

I would go deeper than 303s for sure. 404s at the bare minimum. You have an S5, so clearly you appreciate aero advantage. 808s are the most aero, but at a weight penalty over the 404. I think the 404/808 combo is the best of both worlds. More aero than straight 404, and still going to handle the crosswinds just as good with the 404 on the front. Plus I think it looks even more awesome with the deeper wheel on the back. Here is colorchange's S5 on 808's. It is my favorite S5 to date. It's a 54cm so it looks a bit better than your 56cm. It looks great with the straight 808s, but 404/808 would be lighter, better in crosswinds, and more practical.

regardless, I am loving the ride!

I REALLY love the frame! I personally dont like the mix bottle cages, but thats just my opinion. I still give it a Hot. excited to see how a wheel upgrade will change the overall appearance. what do you think of the bike?

valygrl 05-22-12 10:27 PM

I did the mixed cages with my new Scott too!

bianchi10 - only went on 3 rides (112 miles) so far on the foil, including tonight's local worlds - the foil was the stiffer frame i test rode, and really transfers the power when climbing...every effort is rewarded...it does not "feel" really aero - the geometry/fit is quite aggressive (mine is a 58cm frame) and the ride is borderline harsh stiff - so just what i was looking for!!! it's a racer - only one problem though, the seatpost is slipping (apparently a problem w/ the foils) and actually stripped some the finish on the back of the seatpost...gotta call the LBS tomorrow (bummer, 'cause i'm really excited about this bike)

bianchi10 05-22-12 10:42 PM

hmmm that sucks. I heard that was a huge issue with that frame! good luck. love the bike

Steve90068 05-22-12 10:57 PM

I don't understand why companies keep trying these "innovative" ideas for seat post clamping. BMC had tons of problems, the foils have problems, etc. They should all just use a clamp and call it a day

they are clinchers. but that shouldn't equate to 3 pounds, i agree! i hummed and hawed about getting tubulars, and decided against. i ride my bike pretty far on a regular basis, and don't want the hassle. i can repair a clincher in just over 3min.

btw, that weight included everything. pedals, cages, all sensors, computer mount, but no computer.

Yeah, I have my Spinergy Clinchers for training, which are .9lbs heavier than my 404's which some of that is due to heavier skewers, and a heavier Force cassette. I mostly only use the 404s for racing. I did puncture the new rear tire with only 100miles on it. It has 6g of Stan's sealant in it, and has been holding up great since.

My weight includes everything too. My Garmin broke, and I am being reluctant to pay them $90 to fix it. Second Garmin computer I've owned that quit on me so I haven't rode with a computer on my S2 all year. Since it is pretty much my race only bike I don't really need it. I use my iPhone with a Wahoo fitness ANT+ bike mount on my training bike with a Garmin cadence sensor.

The sensor, and computer mount don't equate to much though. The thing is almost every single part is a little heavier on your bike. I don't know what bars you have, but your stem is probably a few grams lighter. The S5 seatpost alone weighs 220g. My post with saddle is 181g. Add in your saddle weight, and difference in cranks and that's probably a pound right there. If the clinchers are close to my Spinergys that's another pound, and after that the difference in the remaining components in addition to the computer stuff could account for the other pound. Brakes are probably 1/4lb or so. So I guess it makes sense now that I think about it.

Your bike is second of my favorite S5s. I like everything on his bike better, except I would like to see your front wheel on it, but the Beyond Black version. Both of you should sell your Shimano, and put SR11 on. That would make them substantially hotter.

Lets pretend the stem was slammed as my gut is in the way right now.

interesting... i'm not a fan of the beyond blacks at all! i actually had to special order the falcon grey, and wait a couple of weeks to get it. the beyond blacks were readily available.

have to see say, they are absolutely incredible! the hubs spin like butter, and the cross-wind handling is exceptional.

very pleased with the purchase. i'm acutally even tempted to get a set of tubulars for racing.

I like the Falcon grey with the silver spokes and all, but I like the Beyond Black stickers better. I've just never liked black spokes for some reason. If you think your hubs spin good now. Tear them apart, and clean all the grease out, and repack them with Rock N Roll Lube Super Web Grease. They will then spin even smoother, and faster. I did mine over the winter when I glued my new tires on, and put the new stickers on. Mine are 2010 non-Firecrest, but they roll like brand new. I rode my Spinergys on my S2 today. I most definitely could notice the extra .9lbs of wheels. I for one say do it. Buy yourself some tubies. :)

This is it. I'm stopping here (I think). I'm in the 15lb limbo area. I can't really reduce any significant weight without dropping alot of cash. I'm going with narrower bars, but thats it.

Cervelo S2 54cm
SRAM Red: Shifters/rear derailleur. Rival front. K Edge chain catcher. KMC x10SL gold chain
Ciamillo Negative GSL brakes
Misc Shimano M-System cables (switching to Gore shifter and Nokon brake cables when bar arrives)
Rotor 3D crank with round ring 53/38 (SRAM inner)
SRAM 1070 12-27 cassette
Speedplay Zero Cromoly
Ritchey WCS stem (switching to Zipp SC SL)
Easton EC90 SLX bars (switching to Zipp CSL)
Fairwheel Bikes pink top cap
Specialized Romin Comp (steel rail) saddle (I love the gel)
Zipp 404 FC tubular wheels
Vittoria Corsa CR tires
Ebay China carbon cages
Garmin 500

Hot, you are incorrect though. For $70 you can get ti spindles for your pedals, and that will drop 64g. That's almost a dollar a gram. :)

Overall hot but I'd go with a black stem. Also you can lose about 80 grams fairly cheaply by getting aftermarket titanium spindles for your Zero pedals. Little bit of a pain to replace though due to the locktite Speedplay uses on the screw you need to remove to take the pedal body off of the spindle.

Menel 05-24-12 05:43 AM

Will get cut in a week or two.

Or $35 per ounce.

edit* Just saw you're going with a Zipp stem - good choice. I'd do the beyond black version.

It's okay, I think it is funny we both essentially posted the same thing, at almost the same time. I had old pics of when I did mine on my computer, so I found the exact weight. I thought it was closer to 80g too before I looked it up.
