the paint scheme on the white venge is looking pretty similar to recent treks. That's not a good direction. still hot but it is on a slippery slope with that paint.

I kind of dig that white/black/grey Venge. I've seen some pretty fugly Venge color schemes.

Very nice! Is that door dead bolted to the floor. Seems ineffective....

take a look at most double doors and you'll find a top or bottom (or both) flush floor bolt.

that's a pretty poor way (albeit the only way) to do it with a typical household hollowcore door.

Hot. Remove that gargantuan headtube extender/spacer and slam the stem. Then, it would be molten.

I believe Argons have a sort of "active suspension" built into the fork or head tube.
(Makes the stack look long.)
Not sure if this is that model, but I did read up on this feature on the Argon webpage a year or so ago.

I don't care, about valve stems orientation, or white garage doors, or what gear its in.... but, I'm sorry to say, the white venge looks like it was assembled by a PBS employee ... saddle in tri-like position, front QR wrong side, handlebar rolled up, like old guys do with dt shift bikes. ( from that perspective. )

Saddle is in a fine position. The Venge seatpost in that position gives a 20mm setback, at least it isn't flipped. QR is on the wrong side, I can give you that. Bars are in line with the stem, which is decently acceptable.

There's something weird on the spacers, it has a big red saddle wedge, to match the red tape and single red bottle cage perhaps? But, even more weird is the cable routing.

Not

The saddle came like that unless you're referring to the saddle bag and not the plastic guards on the saddle itself, the external cable routing on the bars was because I kept the 105 groupset and in the pics one of the cables simply got caught behind my computer mount when I took it down from the garage, i didn't notice it when I took pic. The weird thing on the spacers was simply my light, I don't usually put it there, its on my bar like in this pic. Most people like the contrasting bottle cages, Anyway, thanks for sharing your opinion. I still love this bike and may upgrade the groups to ultegra this season which may let me route the cables internally in the bar to clean it up a little. :)

Are you really sure you want your first post on BF to be in the Hot or Not thread? At least stage the bike correctly. For starters, remove the saddle bag. And mismatched bottle cages? Hard to imagine where two different saddle cages would look good on any bike.

NOT

Man, this place is harsh, lol. And they're the same cages just different color to match the paint scheme somewhat, looked a hell of a lot better than if they were all white or all red imo

rjones28 03-31-14 09:59 PM

The Giant is nicely spec'd and well executed, but not my cup of tea.

gc3 03-31-14 10:04 PM

As much as I think the Defy Advanced is a well-riding & comfortable machine, that one aint dressed very pretty....and this thread ain't for the thin-skinned....

Yes, yes we are. If your bike has something on it that screams LOOK AT ME (e.g. those cages), then you're doing it wrong. We prefer understated and refined. Loud and obnoxious is rarely acceptable (such as big arse logos all over the place).

Gus90 03-31-14 10:12 PM

Thanks, a kind soul at last. Its my first road bike, when i replace it i want something less....colorful.

Gus90 03-31-14 10:14 PM

True, but it was on sale, I'm beginning to see why. Anyway, perhaps replacing the red cage with a matching white one would tone it down a bit. Last time i listen to the dork at the lbs.

I'm not digging the red tape. Get an all black saddle and black tape. Match the cages. You might be able to get away with red, white or black cages, just have them the same color. Get rid of the logos on the wheels. And don't forget to stage it correctly... that is, remove the saddle bag, rotate the cranks, valve stems in correct position, etc.

bianchi10 03-31-14 10:30 PM

The Giant is "Defy'nitely" NOT hot

:p See what I did there!!?? Sorry, Not

Gus90 03-31-14 10:40 PM

That's good advice thanks, next replacement of tape will be black (originally it was white and I hated it) and I'm definitely replacing the red cage with a matching white one. May wait on the saddle for a bit but when it's time it'll be black. Thanks for the advice, its very much appreciated.

your grammar or your clever use of defy, hard to tell.

bianchi10 03-31-14 10:53 PM

Dont take this thread too seriously though Gus. The bike itself is nice. Really, its the stem angle and shifters for me. If this bike had a Flipped 6 degree and newer generation shifters, it would have a completely different look. As mentioned, swap out that red cage for a white one or black set. Not a fan of the red bartape either, I'd stick with black, but thats just me. This isn't something that I would normally say in this thread, but dont let this thread discourage you at all. If you like it, then ride it like its the hottest bike you have ever seen and be proud of it.

Yeah, I meant "The" not They. Glad I saw that AFTER I wrote the above ;)

Gus90 04-01-14 04:37 AM

Thanks, I did flip the stem that's in the one pic in front of my door. And a new set of brake shifters that use the zipp bars internal routing may be a decent investment to clean it up along with matching my cages and black tape. That should tone it down quite a bit. But taking the stickers of my new wheels is a bit too much, not going to care about that.

It's all good, I wouldn't have posted my bike here if I wasn't ready for honest critiques. Besides, I know its a little loud and obnoxious.
