I apologize about the picture (phone) and the barcode on the rim (can't seem to get it off).

Did I do it right? Besides the tire lettering being not uniform.

the merckx is very hot. well done.

SpeshulEd 04-26-15 09:30 AM

That merckx is sexy, but the tire lettering not lining up with the valves is making my ocd go crazy.

Felt F75. First Road Bike.

Nice first bike. But for this thread, at least pull the dork disc off the rear wheel before posting a picture, would you? That automatically makes it not.

:D

Rather contrary, what with the proud display of single chain wheel, single bottle cage and spare tube, but so elegant, despite the monstrous bars....

And I just noticed the black qr levers. Gotta say, when something rewards scrutiny like this, it is SO hot....

I wouldn't kick it out of bed for eating crackers (what might the cycling equivalent expression be?), but not very hot.
I like it, and would be proud to own it, but it is kind of a hodge-podge. Pretty chain wheels and stays, rather dorky modern wheels, ye olde quill stem, classy frame, indifferent bars and saddle....
But if it's all what you know and like, it's very girl-next-door, I suppose.

Also the reflectors...of course, the dork disk and reflectors aren't necessarily bad things to have on a bike, but going with the flow of the hot r' not thread, they don't belong. Still, a good looking first road bike.

Let's be honest here...no matter how good looking, if their eating crackers in bed, they're out!!! No one likes crumbs in the bed.

Muffin Man 04-27-15 10:39 PM

That Merckx is hot, but it could be so much hotter.

New headset is on the list. I need to ride it a bit before I decide how much to cut off the steer tube. Once its cut a new headset goes on. I want to do it all at once.

Funny the headset doesn't bother me as much as the stretched out rear derailleur.

Not a good staging job, but the bike itself is hot. Looks ready to race.

Hot... Love the paint and it looks in great shape. The tire labels should be lined up with the valve stems tho!

A lot of people will disagree, but I say hot. It is just very simple and classy looking. Even with the dork disc, reflectors, and 28/32 spoke wheels, still looks appealing to me. Enjoy the new ride!

I truly just staged it that way just for the fun of it :) ya know, just tryin' to be different and all that. Nonetheless, thanks for the comment. Here it is, all corrected:

It was my first build! I posted it here hoping for more criticism so I have ideas on what to change, lol. I know the tires don't line up, but I saw this thread after I got the thing assembled.
What would you suggest I do to make it look better? The wheels were definitely a compromise since I was getting well over my original budget and wanted something reliable and strong.

Full list: Late 80's early 90's Merckx Corsa Extra (57cm top tube), early mid 2000's Campagnolo Record Carbon (compact "ct" crankset and FD, RD, shifters/brake levers), Campy Chorus cassette, Campy Record headset, Campy Record Titanium brakes, Campy something Aero seatpost, new Cineli 1A stem, new Cineli Giro D'Italia bars, Mavic cosmic elite wheelset, Fizik Ardea saddle, Fizik soft touch bar tape, Michelin Krylion Carbon tires, Jagwire cables, Wipperman chain

Personally, I'd go with a Record 8 or 9 speed, since the silver look is beautiful on a steel bike, but that's just me. Great frame, great colours, great choice of finishing kit, and mega hot.

It may be me trying to live vicariously through you, but I would love to see that frame with low profile silver wheels and the latest campy group.

Or at least black chainrings.

What kind of wheels are those? I want to replace my stock 28/32 spoke wheels.

sloar 04-28-15 05:45 PM

Campagnolo Khamsins from Ribblecycles,$192 shipped for wheels, tires and tubes. These are my second pair and I really like them. Pretty much bombproof for my 200lbs.

I don't have a white garage door to park it in front of, so a white wall will have to do.
