I'm not at peace with myself or anything else. Cycling Zen only goes so far.

markwebb 09-28-08 07:12 PM

It's a trophy bike if you parade it through a hotel lobby expecting less-worthy Freds on a charity ride to ooh and ahh over it, and you get your panties in enough of a bunch to post here when they don't :)

You win. A trophy wife IS something to brag about :)

It speaks to the utter bike dorkathon that is BF that the morons here think there is any such thing as a 'trophy' bicycle.

Man that's just off the friggin hinges. You guys are an embarrassment to all humanity.

Since you're back and on your self-superior trip again, you should probably brush up on the reading comprehension. As mentioned in the OP, he was clearly interested in it and asking questions. But that wasn't the point. You, however, chose to miss the point entirely and (completely erroneously) launch into how I was somehow "parading" my bike through the lobby (I leaned it against a wall as I checked in) and demanding attention.

So, just so I know for the future, if a hotel has one entrance and it's through the lobby, how do I get it to my room without "parading?" Should I cover the bike with a sheet next time?

Again, your posts in this thread say far more about you than me. Why do you have such a problem with someone who rides a nice carbon bike? Your feelings about it are so strong that you can take me, a complete stranger, and claim to have me all figured out because I ride one, then claim that bikes are meaningless to you.

Can't afford one? Feel like you don't deserve one? What is it? Clearly if it were that unimportant to you, you wouldn't go to all this trouble. Instead you take shots at me and are clearly rationalizing your insecurities or whatever about it as a lack of need. How "at peace" with yourself can you be if you're resorting to this?

markwebb 09-28-08 07:17 PM

No - I am pointing out how smug and cheap you are. I didn't start out this thread with being smug and superior about parading a trophy bike through the hotel lobby and getting no respect. You post something as silly and self-centered as that then ya need to put on your thick skin and endure the harsh responses.

Smug cheapness are two of the Bedrocks of BF.

Yes, the "harsh responses" of those "at peace" with themselves. I know. Keep digging.

Again, not parading, and I really don't care if the guy respected me or not. Feel free to re-read the OP at your leisure. The assumptions you're making say a lot about you. I personally don't define myself in terms of my bike--clearly you do. Good luck with that.

markwebb 09-28-08 07:22 PM

Wow - coming from you that's a compliment. Other folks on BF usually reserve terms like deluded, demented, sad, lost, directionless, pathetic, sorryass friggin WEENIE for you, Pcad.

Finally someone got under YOUR skin. How's it feel ?

I got Pcad to label my comment the shallowest and most disconnected comment he ever read on BF.

I should probably be nominated for the BF Hall of Fame now :) I mean - I exceeded Pcad in being shallow and disconnected !!! Before now that was thought to be impossible.

This is the shallowest and most disconnected comment I have ever read on BF. I'm going to pretend I didn't read this, but you hurt me with this kind of thinking. You deluded, demented, sad, lost, directionless, pathetic, sorryass friggin WEENIE.

Where is the Schwag Worship?

Dude. Seriously. The entire point of the post was that it says "Cervelo" in about 15 places on it and someone asks who makes it. That's like asking a NASCAR driver who sponsors them. There's huge logos all over everything, kinda hard to miss.

If someone asked me who makes my Fuji I'd probably look at them funny since it says Fuji in about 6 different places. It wasn't about the fact that he rides a Cervelo. It was about the fact that someone missed the 15 logos on the bike and asked him who made it.

markwebb 09-28-08 07:28 PM

Ever mess with a Shaolin monk? Peace. Good Karma. Kick yer arse. They are not incompatible.

You missed the point. If someone parades their bike through a hotel and then makes fun of other riders and stereotypes them as Freds because they didn't even know what it was, that's a trophy bike. Lots of trophy bikes out there. Lots of guys with more money than skill. You see it in every group ride and tour.

That's one of the most honest statements you have ever made. On that statement I agree 1000+.

This thread is one of the best I've read in a long time. I haven't laughed this much in a while :)

This may become a classic.

You seriously just compared your insecure ramblings to Shaolin. You have my pity.

Again, please explain how resting a bike against a wall en route to one's hotel room is "parading."

Before you request the sticky you should probably realize that you're kinda making a doosh of yourself.

What's your point? I did in my main ride and need to replace it? WTF?

It's amazing - I get enough under your skin and irritate you that you go and do research on me? Wow I really hit a homerun.

You might also continue to do your research and due diligence and note the physical disabilities I suffer from like the spinal cord tumor and para paresis (sp?) of lower extremeties which eliminated any ability to continue to race, or how I did race at a high level back in the day when everyone rode steel and 5 in back/ 1 in front was all we had. So I continue to search for a ride that is comfortable enough for me to ride and allows me to keep my feet in pedals even though I can't turn my ankles enough to use clipless. Try my posts on recumbents when I was researching them as an alternative to allow me to keep riding.
It's all there in my posts.

Keep digging. doc.

Sure they do... Dude wants a new frame but wants a cheap deal on pretentious Italian steel because it's been a rough year. So someone posts a thread about sitting a bike in a hotel lobby and getting asked about it, and the OP is suddenly "parading" his bike around and demanding attention/recognition, when really it was just a funny "who's buried in Grant's tomb" kind of moment.

And this has what to do with all of the wrong assumptions you made based on the bike I own? And what does Italian paint have to do with the comfort of your bike?

Am I supposed to put up with your attacks because you're bitter? I'm sorry about your back, but me owning a Cervelo had nothing to do with it.

Now you're venting your medical problems on me. You continue to amaze me with how "at peace" you are.

The link was posted in this thread by someone else. I wouldn't call that "research."
