Someone summarize the last four pages for me. It looks amusing, but I'm a busy man.

No - I wanted a quality bike. I don't equate Taiwan with quality, and I didn't want a faux Italian bike made in Taiwan, either fo same quality issues. And I was concerned about the quality of paint on Italian bikes these days. I wanted quality. That's not smug that's spending money wisely.

The guy was bicycle-ignorant, but I can identify with that. I've seen cars before that had a name or logo on them that I didn't recognize. I didn't know if that was a model made by some other company, or a company on its own that I had never heard of. Similarly, someone mentioned the stock cars up there. Just because a car has "Skoal" all over it doesn't mean that Skoal made the car.

markwebb,
You may have raced back in the day, but I'm guessing you don't frequent large group rides. The kind people come from out of town for, and every hotel for miles is booked solid. People don't like to leave their bikes in, or on, their cars overnight - tons of people bring their bikes up to their room. Many of them *gasp* wheel them through the lobby. Or was I "parading" my $800 Allez around in a smug and condecending way as well? Sorry, but every time you open your mouth in this thread you're looking like a bigger fool. Mac |

Don't try to oversimplify the complications of Cycling Zen. You can't do it. Start with a new Cervelo. |

Someone asked him "Are you a doctor?" The doc laughed inside at such a silly question and posted about it online. Now markwebb is taking him to task for showing off his diamond-edged scalpel. More or less... |

I'm actually thinking you're not so bad, Pcad. Your sarcasm is not lost on me. You're cool.
I am laughing. This is a funny thread. My gosh I love BF :)

The world equates Taiwan with quality? Hmmmm that one did slip by me while I was asleep.

It's only parading it if you get in a tither that they didn't ga ga over you bike and didn't recognize it, and you then post about it here. Otherwise your right.
BRAG, Spring Brag Tune Up, Hilly Hundred, Amaishlandandlakes. MOKH are just a few of the large group rides I've done in last few years. You & I & everyone else carts their bikes through the lobby or side doors up to our rooms. But if someone down in the lobby fails to recognize my bike as something really cool I don't post about it here. That's the difference - that action reveals an elitist attitude. Look at title of thread.

As for your Cervelo envy, the best I can prescribe is to take two chill pills and don't call us in the morning. |

Dude. Seriously. The entire point of the post was that it says "Cervelo" in about 15 places on it and someone asks who makes it. That's like asking a NASCAR driver who sponsors them. There's huge logos all over everything, kinda hard to miss.
If someone asked me who makes my Fuji I'd probably look at them funny since it says Fuji in about 6 different places. It wasn't about the fact that he rides a Cervelo. It was about the fact that someone missed the 15 logos on the bike and asked him who made it. |
Bill Engval (sp?) does a whole routine... "here's your sign" on this. Very funny stuff.
At least he didn't ask "you a biker?" I've gotten that at work when I show up in full lycra carrying my bike helmet and what all. "Did you bike to work?" Sheesh. |

On the other hand, anyone stupid enough to be a Mets fan is reasonably harmless, so I'm not exactly a Big Threat. |

Against my better judgment, I am posting a reply. I don't have road cycling credentials (I don't own a road bike, though I aspire to), but I can read. From what I can gather from the OP, the good doctor was merely pointing out the humor behind someone asking him who makes the bike he owns despite its many and varied decals. That's it. No more, no less. And five pages of posts later... Much ado about nothing, as are most things on BF.
(For the record, I was not aware the Cervelo was a Canadian company. That, among other things, would classify me as a Fred.) |
