Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why does a bike with such a light frame come out weighing 17 lbs? What kind of boat anchor components are you putting on that thing?

I think that "Scott Road Pro" saddle weighs about 8 pounds.

Bikes: Steelman eurocross, Surly CrossCheck, IRO Rob Roy...

I would buy this for racing https://www.cannondale.com/bikes/09/c...5D_9RA95C.html and use the extra 2K to buy race wheels, coaching entry fees, travel, food...

Hell, Cervelo does the same thing with their $5500 S2, nice components but then there's the Ultegra cassette (idiots, what's the OEM difference between the D.A. and Ultegra cassettes, $30?) and throw away boat anchor friggin Shimano wheels I wouldn't put on my crappiest rain bike. I'm upgrading the wheels and the cassette. But if they had the nice wheels and D.A. cassette, the MSRP on the bike would be $6K +, but that's what all the competing models from Cdale, Trek, etc. cost in that range anyway. Go figure.

Somebody at Cervelo thinks that's brilliant marketing. They're friggin Canadian. There you go.

Bikes: Kuota Kreedo...looking for something different.

I used to want a Scott until they started selling them in the US...

Seems pricy....the Ltd is $12,699.99 WTF? WOW!!

What is the frame only price? I would think 3500 and that is there lowest level they offer...buy the frame fork and build from there....your have a better bike in the end than stock OEM stuff...

You ain't kidding...

Old seat:

New seat:

Cost wise, a pretty efficient way to shave grams is to get rid of a Scott Road Pro.

The MOST efficient way. That's also the best saddle out there. Smart move.

Not that I'm doubting you for a moment here but do you really care that much about having a DA cassette for the sake of 35 grams? Enough not to just ride the Ultegra one until it wears out and then get a DA?

It's all the tools that have to be carried in the seat bag to fix the Shimano components.

I have considered the Scott Addict with D.A. 7900. Decided on the Cervelo S2 with the D.A. 7900, opting for stiffness/aero over lightness.

But I have read nothing but raves from reviewers about the Scott Addict. Sounds like a great racing bike.

You're still too fat to be aero.

Bikes: Scott CR1 Pro

I rode the Addict R1 and loved it, but out of my price range. $3300 for the frame-set alone. Picked up a 2009 CR1 and am tremendously impressed.

I'm actually shocked how much the Scott seat weighs. It felt heavy but I didn't realize it was that much. I think I'm below 17lbs now with the saddle swap:

PS: The addict does have a replaceable derailleur hanger.

Incorrect.

Anyway, I don't know if those silly Addicts still have non-replaceable hangers, but I've seen two frames destroyed in minor accidents because the hanger was damaged. Don't do it!

3K for a frame that will be raced, and crashed is waaaaaaay overpriced.

For racing I would build up a CAAD9. For 3.5K you could build it with full Red, and every bling part imaginable. And only the world biggest jackassposertool would argue the racing pedigree of a CAAD9.

Do you want a race bike, or a name?

Pcad, regarding the choice of cassette on the S2:
I think they're doing you a favor. Ultegra cassettes will last way longer than DA ones for most people because the DA has titanium cogs.

I'll send you $30 for that Ultegra cassette if it's an 11-23. You can buy a new DA one every 2 months...
