The point isn't that thread in particular. Nor one individual in particular. It is the attitude of this forum in general.
Psimet2001, umd, pcad, bdcheung, all of ya'll are good guys. I've got no personal beef with any of ya'll. Nor does any other mod that I know of. But I do think ya'll bust on some people a little too hard a little too often. If as a whole we could back it down a couple notches, I think we'd all get along better, still have a lot of fun. If pcad wants to start a thread saying everyone who rides less than him is for wussy, fine. Psimet, I know you do hold a lot of rides and wish I could make it up to one. I'd ride with you any time (if I can keep up). umd, love reading about your rides and racing. Sharing experience and experences of cycling is what this forum is here for. But when members do not feel welcome or comfortable sharing their experiences, questions, etc because of the expected responses, something needs to be addressed. Perhaps some new members do have a thin skin. Perhaps pcad and a few others are used to a rougher sort of fellow cyclist than others of us. This is a global forum, and we need to remember that and respect that. |

Sorry. Can't muster up the mojo to get upset about any of this. It's not happening. But you do sound upset enough for both of us, so that's something. I don't get off on busting newbies, but if somebody can't handle that, I doubt they're long for this sport regardless. Whether you like it or not, cycling does require the capacity to handle some adversity. And the adversity you encounter on the road with cars, weather and other myriad hazards far outweighs anything the morons on BF can ever throw your way with a ball busting post or two. I seriously doubt any discouraging word somebody hears on BF will make or break them as future cyclists. And personally I don't care if you think that a discouraging work from someone isn't going to make or break them as a future cyclist. Why do you feel compelled to say those discouraging words to someone you've never interacted with before in your life? Seriously, why? |

You know, on the surface, we joke, we laugh. But really, deep down inside... we joke, we laugh.

Also, I just want to add that the demeanor and presentation of a poster will affect the replies they get. Contrast the thread we are talking about here with this one.

One can only think of all the shattered newbies lurking out there, shivering in their foxholes, wondering if that brand new $1399 Closeout Trek and $99 2 year old Disco Kit was a mistake after all as they hear Pcad and Cuda tearing each other new BF aholes. |

I was going to not stop at all but I remembered last time I rode out there I didn't make the stop and ran out of water and there was nowhere else along the route to get any. So I stopped and bought a gatorade and bottle of water. I hate having to buy water but it is a motorcycle hangout and they don't like to encourage cyclists so rather than even ask I just bought both, filled my bottles and continued on my way. The irony is that I didn't end up needing it. Oh well.
