Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've been shopping around for a couple of weeks. A new jacket that is thicker than the windbreaker jacket. Minus 33 midweight wool baselayers, Shimano MW7 SPD riding shoes/boots, Cygolite Hotshot Pro 150, pedals (because pedals plus cleats aren't much more expensive than cleats alone) and a pair of thermal boot liners to provide insulation from the metal on the pedals. This should keep me warm for my 22 mile morning ride to work! The wool items are my xmas gift from my cats :-) And I have some green bar tape on the way to replace the filthy white tape on Synapse!

BM Works Tool capsule for my CX/ winter bike. Easy to put on/take off, easy to get to stuff and I only use 1 bottle in the winter anyway.

Islabikes Beinn 20 Small (green) for my five year old's Christmas present. Haven't unboxed it yet but can't wait. Looking forward to him finally having gears.

Time to retire my old friends, the Sidi Genius 5, at the tender age of 10 years old.

They served me well, but I couldn't pass up the great deal on the Sidi Kaos Air Carbon deal on Competitivecyclist earlier this week. At $150, they're $70 cheaper than my G5's were 10 years ago, not account for inflation. And after a quick spin around the block, they are really an evolutionary leap forward. The G5's feel so mushy in comparison!

Before the weather turned cold, I was riding to work three days a week. I take the train home and it's a short 3 mile ride home. In my previous job I was commuting 16 miles each way four days a week. It's a relatively flat ride.

Very nice setup! I'm trying to convince myself I need the Neo to replace my Kickr.

Have always enjoyed their clear lenses and just noticed they're now offering tinted. Picked up a pair! Any riding below 50f and my eyes water quite substantially.

Hahaha I can see how it might seem like those two do look a bit underwhelming but I actually have trouble with overcooling and getting kinda chilly with them. There are times I have to lower it occasionally in the middle of a ride.

A bigger fan would just be more of a nuisance. Plus when I open those two windows behind a good amount of air comes in and then I don't even need the fan anymore haha.

Thanks for the compliment!

Thanks!!!

I was torn between the 2nd gen Kickr and the Neo. Rode both. Neo is the best, and by bike lengths at the end of a sprint for a visual comparison.
Oh and another big factor for me choosing the Neo is that it's almost dead silent. Which is helpful because there are people sleeping in the bedroom below me while I ride at like 6am and to date never had a single complaint about noise.

How are you liking the Neo? I just did my first Zwift session last night with mine and was pretty disappointed. It was reporting about 50 watts less then I was normally getting using a calibrated Tacx Vortex Smart. Going to do a direct comparison using P1 pedals tonight. I'll probably be sending it back if it reports significantly lower than the pedals.

50w seems a bit much but don't be in a rush to send it back. What is the difference in %? There are lots of variables that could account for the diff between pedals and a trainer power meter including different algorithms, different points of power measurement, etc. From what I understand it is normal for pedal based meters to differ more than crank based. My Vector and Kickr don't show the same power readings. If you want 100% comparable data use the P1s all the time.

If you have the pedals, why not just use those for power measurement?
