^ That's probably because you were frolicking in a hot pink number with wand-sparklers and not really running... so yeah, people will notice. That'd probably be the safest way to run, actually. Make yourself extremely noticeable...

Anywho, I can't even begin to imagine riding my bike against traffic. Running, however... that's different. I can't explain why, it just feels right.

Well, this thread is a waste. I personally think it's a good idea for peds to face traffic, but I've heard and give merit to the arguments on both sides. But really, as long as I'm paying attention to what's in front of me, it doesn't matter which direction the person is going. If I am approaching a ped going the same direction and I look over my shoulder to see thousands of pounds of metal going by me with inches to spare, I'll tuck in behind the ped for a few seconds. I doub't I've ever been held up by even 30 seconds, no matter how long it felt to me. If the ped is facing me, I expect some attempt on the person's part to make safe passing possible. I rarely have a problem with either. The OP needs to learn some patience, maybe even take out a stop watch to see how few of his precious seconds were lost while he was allowing others to inhabit his planet.

Do you think I feel any different coming up behind a couple of Freds on the bridle path that are ridding side by side slower than I am running?
Get over it and move on.

Yes, once the 1/8 mile curve was over and the oncoming traffic was not a factor, I left them behind quickly. What I can't get over is that these people, members of a local gym/spa, demonstrate the very thing that so many drivers harangue cyclists for. They are no longer in their cars, but for some reason, think that running down the middle of the road, stretched across the entire lane (rather than as far right as possible like bikes are supposed to ride) is perfectly acceptable. I wonder how many of them harassed a cyclist as they drove home that evening.
When I'm climbing Monte Sano, I move into the middle of the lane on the blind curves to keep the cars from trying to pass and probably forcing me into the ditch. Once I can see up ahead, I wave the cars around.
You should never right as close to the curb as you can. That just invites trouble with cars. Stay 2-3 feet out in the road.

21956. (a) No pedestrian may walk upon any roadway outside of a business or residence district otherwise than close to his or her left-hand edge of the roadway.
(b) A pedestrian may walk close to his or her right-hand edge of the roadway if a crosswalk or other means of safely crossing the roadway is not available or if existing traffic or other conditions would compromise the safety of a pedestrian attempting to cross the road.
So walk facing traffic unless you start with traffic and can't cross the road safely OR are in a neighborhood, then you can walk anyway you want, unless there is a sidewalk...
It's also illegal for peds to be in the road or bike lane if there is an "adequate pedestrian facility" i.e. sidewalk, dirt path, clear bit of grass, etc

I know that law. I was stating my opinion, not the law's opinion, and pertaining to the entire planet and not just my state

nice to see that the laws are perpetuating irrational fears tho.
