I don't know about the EU not letting Shimano buy Campagnolo. What's the market penetration of SRAM? If it's high enough compared to what Shimano vs. Campagnolo alone was a few years ago, it could move forward. There might be obstacles, but there could also be workarounds.
All speculation at this point, of course.

the Japanese yen was pretty strong, and is still quite strong.
perfect time to buy out international companies
wouldn't suntour want a larger piece of the cake?

I wonder if they'll move their production from Romania. I think it's Romania. Some Eastern Bloc-ish country.
Some engineering input into Campy would be good, and this is from someone that has all Campy on his bikes (except the tandem).

Why do people want Campy to be sold? Isn't Shimano dominant enough without holding a monopoly on quality bike parts?

Also, there's no reason to assume that the potential buyer is Shimano.

Someone, other than Shimano with capital, and manufacturing expertise, buys Campy, it could be a good thing for cyclists.
Shimano buys Campy would be a bad thing for cyclists.
FSA buys campy, I would hope they wouldn't F it up like a lot of FSA stuff is already.
Private Equity Group buys them, just looking to flip it, bad thing for cyclists.

sometimes you buy out companies for their patents.
suntour, sugino, etc. can sure use a lot of patents.

WOW! If true, the romantic euro-centric wet dream will be over. For 95% of us it was over 20 years ago but i still feel bad for the cult members. It was just a matter of time.

Is there an anti-Campy group out there that thinks there was nothing worth while from Campy after the original Super Record??
