I could go there but I won't (fnar, fnar) :D

righto, I'll try with the valve extenders, see how that goes, they are about 2 inches long so should give plenty of room to seal the head on there. :(

He will have to contend with verges and cycle lanes filled with debris (eg logs, girders, etc), numerous potholes, loose paving, enormous cracks, corrugated surfaces (especially on sharp bends and steep descents), animals (live and not so alive, some poisonous and cranky), oh yeah an the odd cranky motorist. [EDIT] and we drive on the correct side of the road, which makes crossing intersections interesting (and sometime spectacular) for the unsuspecting tourist

You should see the roads in Chicago. They are exactly what you describe, so I don't think that would be an issue! We also have the cranky motorists, but not the poisonous animals... but we do run into animals occasionally too!

Thanks, I'll pass this along to him.

My thought is why not buy the bike and bring it back? He's going with 6 other folks. I'm sure between the 7 of them, they could split that bike up and everyone takes back a few pieces. I'll let him know, though.

Thanks!

I do Akuna Bay on Saturdays

But if he's staying down south or way out west then those rides prolly aren't any use to him...

I'll try to find out exactly where in Sydney he's staying. Thanks! :)

I'll ask. But you should send me a PM, or I will forget. I'll see him again early next Wed morning, then he's leaving town.

Some of the clubs that do regular training rides and races are:

http://northernsydneycyclingclub.org.au/

and a bit further afield (an hour north) but also awesome is THIS great club:

http://www.centralcoastcyclingclub.com/ [Just doing my bit hey munchie?]

And in general our cycling body is Cycling NSW which posts race info and news etc. It also has phone numbers of all the clubs in the area.

And then our advocacy organisation might be able to help also.

Wow, Climbo that's what I'm talkin' 'bout! :D

I'm going to pass this info on to him. Hopefully, he'll be able to get what he wants from the links you've provided.

Thanks!

nothing, it works great but it has worn out so much that the lock doesn't lock on tight enough anymore. The brass casing has worn away slowly so I'm trying to figure out a way to fix it. In the meantime, I installed the other head.

I'm only on 850ish km....have not been on the bike for 2 weeks after straining my legs from running and indoor soccer a few weeks ago. Then last week tried to have a hit of squash but that just stuffed them even more. Anyway had the remedial massage last night and was told i can do some light stuff so i'll be back on the bike this weekend :)

yep....Its at lancefield, which is only a 20 minute drive from my place. We race on this route all the time. It'll be Ok as long as its not to windy, challenging without being too difficult. Nothing too steep in the hill dept.....some pretty quick decents though. I'm in MAS 3. I reckon I'll get dropped at the first corner....steep but short climb, everyone will be 'maxing' here, but this is where the first attempt at softening up the field will come. You doing anything other than the RR?

....I'm tempted to give you as much sympathy as you gave me...but i haven't had enough to drink yet!.....speaking of PBP (which we weren't)...I ran into a bloke at the Alpine this year who knows you!. Can't remember his name, but a had a PBP 04 jersey on & rides a Tommassini (or whatever they are called)....older bloke with funny teeth (maybe a few to many off's)...anyway, he reckons you are a good bloke. I told him we musta been talking about different 'Taswegian Rowans'......

yeah Arvo suits me better than morning actually. What time & how much time you got?

Thanks blokes for the words of support re the job. I've decided that there will be far less feeling sorry for myself and far more wasting of time on the bike forum from now on.

Hopefully my stupidity this morning will give you something to laugh about. 2 flat tires in 5 mintues withouth leaving the house! First a valve breaks, you know the little bit that screws back in on a presta valvle, well it just fell off. Then because I was in a hurry, I wasn't careful enough putting in the spare tube, and must have pinched the damn thing with the tire lever. Of course, I only have one spare.
I feel your pain brother. I put my NEW Conti's that I got for Xmas on the bike and went for a ride to Frankston. Got back and be buggered if I didn't notice a 7mm cut in the back tyre...SPEWING!! Speaking of being buggered, I had a colonoscopy this morning. I'm not too sure what they did to me as I was under general aneasthic, but when I woke up a whole lot of people were kissing me and thanking me for the date!! :o Anywho, the doctor has given me a clean bill of health, and his phone number :D .

Dave, I'm down for the ride on the 27th. My caveat is that I'm a fat old man who hasn't ridden much so need lot's of sympathy.

I should be right for a ride in the arvo.
A word of warning though, you may want to tell 531 at least 30 minutes before the actual meeting time, so he will only be a little bit late :D

That'll teach you to name-drop!

Christ knows who it might be. A randonneur's reputation spreads far and wide. State of teeth doesn't help!!!

Anyway, nice to know that my existence is validated in the realm of the Aussie Thread All-Mighty.

Speaking of which, how's it going persuading Mr Saxa to let you through the firewall?

Houston, we have a problem...

Dave's a pretty fit, lean and hungry under-30 type that eats Bonnet Hill for breakfast and dinner (literally) coz he commutes everyday 30km round trip.

Now

Either I have scared the Vickos *****less with this paragon of Tasmanian fitness

Or

I've scared Dave *****less with a reputation that he has to live up to.

And that ride from St Kilda and back... it's not quite as simple as the Melburnites make it out to be...

I think you'll be surprised to see what I ride while my Cannondale is in the sick bay.
