Most freight companies use cubic weight measurements because they normally exceed the actual weight. The maximum dimensions for parcels sent via Aust Post is 105cm in length and 140cm girth (ie. 2 x width + 2 x height). For 700c you are hosed because the girth will always exceed 140cm. That is why freight is so much for wheels.

Postage sucks. Want my advice? Log onto ebay, look for someone selling wheels, and ask who they use. I had a pair delivered for $25. I'm so clever.

Find out who your bike shop uses. Or even shoot Earth Bike, I think it is in Adelaide, an email and see if they have something coming over that you can hitch onto.

I don't think my LBS paid $140 for my Velocity rims from Brisbane to Hobart, and they were a single order.

Try the interstate bus companies. They'll carry freight. You need to drop off and pick up from a terminal which may be a problem.
I used Toll to bring a bike from Brisbane. Cost me $75.

I'm almost selling a wheel too and just checked the charges on the Aust Post website for a potential buyer. This pain in the butt buyer wants me to weight it for him, it's a freakin Zipp wheel, it's as light as buggery anyway, what's the point? It's not like I put lead inside the rim first. Think I might just keep it and tell him freight is $100.

Geez....I've only done 1079.83km for the year but missed about 2 weeks early feb when i strained the legs. Other than that I can only add 7 Gym sessions, 4 Runs, 2 rounds of Indoor soccer, and 1 game of squash for the year.

But still, go to the local Post Office and ask for the booklet that has all the charges. Interesting reading. I have one somewhere, but not here. I gives all the details on what you can send, what dimensions and the costs. Often, the person at the other end of the PO phone doesn't reallly know. I've sent all sorts of stuff by Aus Post including a wheel (but that was around 8 years ago, from SA to Tas) and nothing has blown me out of the water cost-wise (most recently a fairly decent-sized box with weighty stuff from country Vic to Tas).

Worst comes to worst, maybe there's an AFL fan going over to Adelaide soon who can bring it back for you. Or shouldn't I go there? :D

Seatpost Recall -- Cannondale wants back 1,480 improperly manufactured 1-X suspension seatposts that it put on various 2005 road bikes. The posts can crack, though no rider injuries have been reported.

The suspect posts have "1-X" etched on them. They came with a black-yellow-and-red instruction booklet.

If this seatpost is on your bike, you're urged to contact a Cannondale dealer for a free replacement.

Expat, we went for a good ride last night. Entered the track at Gun Club road (near where we came out last weekend) and did a big loop that took about 1.5 hours to complete. Lots of single track, jumps and a bit more technical stuff as well. Quite a few good stacks by some of the group, some even had a decent amount of blood :D

We are thinking of doing the loop again saturday morning if you are interested?

We took the dog to the beach last night. I'm pretty sure I can squueze in a ride Saturday morning. What was the route you guys took?

We went in gun club road and single tracked it across to Mereweather way,t hen rode along a grassed firetrail and up to the main road (scenic drive) and then back down a trail that took us out down near the sewage plant, then we did that bit of track we did in reverse, but instead of going up the hill we across the creek and single tracked to the scout camp. Then climbed up the hill to the council depot took a track that was full of jumps and came out on the Fernleigh track (towards the end of the track), went back into the bush not far down and single tracked it again back to where we started our ride last week. Took another train then up through the hill and pretty much followed the hill back around to where we started on gun club road. Was a top ride.

It is one of those ones that you need to ride a few times to get to know the track then you would be able to hit it reasonable hard and have a lot of fun!

anyone got a new or used MTB flat bar lying around they don't need? Need a cheap one for my commuter bike.
