I was very appreciative of the help Pete and the young girl gave at the front. I was less than enthused about the sit-on-spinners, but it felt good blasting them away on the third last lap. I love it when they have no legs left. Mewhawhawhaw. Shame I couldn't bring Pete with me, but he got stuck at the back in a grade overlap at the bell. Them's the breaks

C grade now includes everyone who was racing D before xmas.
Bottom line, no one takes a turn!
Pete & I took shots in our last race in D grade, we turned round after a lap and there was only 5/20 left..
Pete still does more than his fair share, I took a shot and got about 10 seconds before he passed me again. (maybe I was goin too slow). On the last lap, he was buggerred and pulled off, the kid in second chased him across the road. I spat the dummy and told the kid to take a shot or F#@% off, he did and was dropped 10 seconds later.

Same thing last race, gap formed and I got across, tried to drag Pete with me but by that point he's wrecked. Too many people riding dishonest races!

Lockout rules for the road KMS to the dirt! Unless you drive your bike there? ;)

I don't drive, fullstop. I'm an inner city cyclo guy - I either ride, catch public, or bum a lift.

I agree about the prices down here. Man, you should check out the Aussie sections of mtbr.com and farken.net. Every second post is 'I'm ordering this from overseas" or "What a rip-off".

Luckily my next set of forks will only set me back about 600 bucks, which sure beats paying retail of 1400.

yep, the only way is to attack on your own or in a small group. C sucks, B will be much more interesting to race if I ever get back there before road season starts. There will be a Club Championship Crit at the beginning of April some time, whenever the last crit is.

Yeah, that's me. Although I wasn't "racing" D so much as observing D from 200m....300m... 500m... 1km. I've done a bit of training since then tho.

So we could have a pre-organised 3 man breakaway...? or at least until you fit b'stads drop me! I'll bring a tow rope...

I had already planned to do something like that, but I was thinking of 4 or 5. Organise three core guys n gals before the line, then quietly add one or two on the line so things don't get out of hand. We shouldn't be talking team tactics with the club captain watching over our shoulders... such behaviour might be considered 'unethical' (as opposed to never taking a turn, which is quite within the boudaries of sportsmanship).

I think we'll give this thread to the roadies during the day, and the fat tire crowd at night. How's that?

berny 02-23-05 01:47 AM

Yep I think I'll take a look at doing something at the 12hr. I'm not sure just which way I'll tackle it but I think a team of 4 with some support from an LBS. Just for the fun and being a part plus it's a lovely circuit to race at.

It pi$$es me off when dudes won't take a turn but more annoying is when new dudes turn up and declare they've never raced, get to go round in E grade, and win by a bloody street. They may not have raced road or crits but two of the guys who turned up recently are experienced triathletes. Bloody burglars, shot through with the booty and me bloody points too.

Yeah, how would you tackle 12 hours with a four man team? 4 x 3hr, 2 x 4 x 1hr30, 3 x 4 x 1hr? Tricky, especially if your teammates are all at different fitness levels.

Brian 02-23-05 03:10 AM

It's laps in the off road races, so when you get tired, you come in and someone else goes out.

Hitchy 02-23-05 03:21 AM

Oi...Nsw troglodytes, get outta the way a minute!...us mexicans have some serious business to discuss!.....Ok...who's up for a ride with Dave on Sundee arvo?. 'cafe racer' at 2.30pm or 'le knicks' at 3pm (for all you rich b@stards that can afford sandringham prices!).....Tiger?, Wattsy?...Big Ed?...SJP?...others?

Hitchy

climbo 02-23-05 03:45 AM

nobody's listening Hitchy, who cares about riding with big Dave - ooohhhhhhh !! big deal.... :D

no interest in the raceway loops from me, sounds mind numbing.

Mornin' men. I went lookin for the local training ride this morning and didn't find it. I hate when you have to ride 20km to an approximate address in an unfamiliar neighbourhood in the dark only to find jack.

Brian 02-23-05 05:09 PM

Who's Jack? And why are you looking for him in a dark neighbourhood early in the AM?

dbuckingham144 02-23-05 05:28 PM

Haha

dbuckingham144 02-23-05 05:35 PM

I give it to the guys and girls riding out to the RAAF base in the morning, they certainly take their lives into their own hands when they cross over Stocken Bridge! Nearly saw a couple of them get wipped out this morning about 6am (still a bit dark and foggy, two cars abreast doesnt leave a lot of room).

geekylucas 02-23-05 05:47 PM

So anyway.

I found someone in Adelaide who has some good cond. spinergy's they want to sell. Does anyone know of a good cheap courier service that I can call?

So far I've tried 3 places and they've all quoted me $140+ to ship them to Melbourne on their lowest priority service.

At that price it's cheaper for me to fly to Adelaide to pick them up myself ($98 return with Virgin).

rockmuncher 02-23-05 06:02 PM

Whenever I cross Stockton Bridge it gives me the creeps, night or day. There's just no room at all for cyclists, and its got a real 'dark alley' feel to it.

dbuckingham144 02-23-05 06:06 PM

I have never actually done the cross my self, but I can see why it would be creepy. Cars in the left obscure any cyclists that may be about, as a result cars in the right dont see thus just proceed to over take as normal, which doesnt give the cars on the left any room to move over safely to pass the rider. They have that walk way up the middle, but it is not designed to ride in and it is a fairly narrow bridge so there is no real way of providing a curb for the riders either.

Have you tried Fastway? I see them all over.

Anyone down there race the track, Dave? There are so many tracks and big races down there (way down in Tas I mean). They pay some big money and attract all the top riders, must be a good place to ride in summer. 2 guys I used to race with in the States went down there for the summer which I thought was good to see, attracting riders from a long way away with good $$$, young guys too, not as good as the Aussies though. :D
