So are you officially qualified to teach me how to catch barrels? |

it actually looks cleaner in real life; it's a nice, smooth, flat weld, and the colour match is seamless. 50 bucks http://vmartin.bigpondhosting.com/ph...elo_repair.jpg |

I don't follow Aussie Rules, only Rugby Union and Football. Haven't ridden my road bike in a long time as I'm tied up on the weekends renovating the house and playing football. I gotta say im glad the goverment took over the perrylakes project, now they got to find some dollars for coaches, a couple athletic champions coming through and coaches thin on the ground. What number are you wearing for the new "force" rugby team? :D |

I got my Pinarello for a good price and I don't need the money it would bring so I want to keep it. My Avanti wouldn't be worth much and my wife wants to keep her bike because she likes it. If I get a good job overseas I'll visit Milan and get a bike custom made (or at least fitted) at one of the factories over there - hopefully Pinarello, but they're all pretty good. |

The problem with that area is that the wall thickness of the tube in that section is too thin, and it usually ovalises during welding meaning that when you stick the seat post in (which differ in size wildly from model to model, BTW) the fit is awful. It usually means you have to reef on the seat clamp to stop the post from slipping down, and because the fit is so bad the post more than likely rocks inside the seat tube as well. Hey presto - you work harden that section of seat tube which makes it brittle, concentrates the forces at the bottom of that slot, and before you know it you have a cracked frame. Now, who's for the long explanation? Suffice to say my frames don't have that problem. The other solution is to do the same thing, but make kind of a lug on the outside of the seat tube to beef up the wall thickness a bit. That can look neat in a ye-olde-school kinda way, too. |

Any of you blokes see 'The Gooch' tonight?.......quality TV....not...but at least its about cycling. I think they picked the only day in the history of mankind that the 'Hell Ride" had only 50 blokes.....Helmet cam in the sprint was awesome though!

I really think (hope) that my bad habit of slamming back onto the seat after out of the saddle efforts had a lot do with the break. Needless to say, I've stopped doing it. I rode the Cervelo tonight for the first time in 3 or 4 months, and I forgot how good and smooth it was. I've been beating around on my Dedacciai 7003 Kennedy for a couple of weeks, and wasn't realizing how much it was beating me up -- even on Beach Road! The alu Kennedy will definitely become my "wet day only" bike. I've stiffened up the Cervelo a little by putting the 1" Roselli fork (with the alu steerer) on it. There's no doubt it has more BB flex than my alu frames, but I like to call it "whip" :) -- and it's worth it, anyway, for the smoothness. |
I've gotta admit that I've only just bought my first set of Shimano dual pivot brakes (2nd hand Dura-Ace 7700) since I had some Ultegra dual pivots in about '93, which I sold. Since then I've only used crappy Campag single pivot calipers from the mid '90s. Brakes were obviously the last thing I decided to upgrade, because I didn't need new calipers to go from 7 speed, to 8 speed, to 9 speed, etc, so I never bought any.
Listen to this::p TONIGHT WAS THE FIRST TIME SINCE I WAS ABOUT 14 THAT MY REAR WHEEL LIFTED OFF THE GROUND WHEN I APPLIED THE FRONT BRAKE!! COULDN'T BELIEEEEEVE IT. These Dura-Ace calipers are fkn amazing!! Welcome to the 90s, Nev :o Reminded me of the Jack Brabham story when he drove a modern F1 car: he anticipated the horsepower, but didn't anticipate the amazing braking power, so he applied the brakes so far from the corner that he had to accelerate again to get to the bend!! :p |
anyone got a spare pair of recessed brake bolts lying around? Can't seem to locate any locally..... the Kennedy is almost ready, the small things are taking the longest.....
