The behaviour of large group training rides in the Melbourne area is in the news again after a large group of cyclists allegedly knocked over a man on a pedestrian crossing last month. According to a report in the Mordialloc Chelsea Leader, Mark Vawdrey, 53, said he was crossing Main St, Mordialloc at a pedestrian crossing at 6.30am when he a group of up to 100 riders ran a red light. Two collided with him and failed to stop afterwards.

"They bowled me over and left me lying in the road covered in blood," said Vawdrey.

It's not the first time group rides in the area have given ride to complaints. In 2002 a Code of Conduct was drawn up after Melbourne's Beach Road Hell Ride (which passes through Mordialloc) caused numerous complaints of riders ignoring road rules including running red lights. At the time, police threatened to stop the ride.

Senior Constable Dave Eadie of the Victoria Police State Bicycle Co-ordination Unit, said the incident involving Mr Vawdrey was "unfortunate." Eadie, a cyclist himself and one of the police representatives responsible for the Hell ride code of conduct added, "This sort of incident is the reason [cyclists] have to get respect back from other road users."

Since when were cyclists apportioned any respect at all by other road users? :eek:

buggers, I had a guy yell abuse at me yesterday for blocking the road, saw him at the roundabout up the road again, in the line of about 50 vehicles and a police car with lights flashing, cars at a halt in the actual roundabout area. If only he had a clue...he wasn't happy when I rode off.

As for time, no real limit, if we go nice and early we can spend all the time we need. Say around 7am my place, riding by 8am easy.

Speaking of road blocking exploits...

I'm now the proud owner of multiple nicks and bruises thanks to a friggin clown on a motorbike. He had been moving forward between two lines of cars on Pymble Hill when the gap became to narrow for him to pass. So he just stopped and sat there.

What followed would have been some of the best entertainment commuters had ssen for a while! I spot the tool with about 60m to impact, speed 65kmh, room to manouvre zero. Jam on the breaks ready to do a quick right-left jink into the next little alley way and what happens? Nothin. Faaaark, dew build-up on the rims. Approaching rear quarter of commodore at 60kmh. Correct course and miss commodore by millimetres. Two more cars ahead, jink right, rear starts to squeal, slide, and then (you guessed it) lift!. The front brakes had come to life (as you would expect), only I'm so hard on the pressure that the front wheel locked up and I went A-over-T, stopping about a foot behind the moto-tool. Damage to third party vehicles: nil

Now I can tell you I wasn't seeing the funny side of things, but when a passing car let rip with a klaxxon horn I just lost it! It's an uncomfortable feeling, laughing when your body is trying to make you vomit from deep muscle pain...

man that sucks, what about the bike damage? So you were going down the hill I presume, between the cars as they were stopped at a light?

Bike damage? Hanger bent about half a milli-sqilly plus the odd scratch here 'n' there. I came off worst with bewdy corks on each quad and a banged up shin that I keep knocking. Bring tears to my eyes every time.

And yes you presume correctly. Three lines of cars from the firestation down to Mona Vale Rd. I always wanted to be on Chuck Connor's Thrillseekers :D

I can imagine.... but I still managed to miss everything around me. Although I now wish I had just kept barrelling along and dropped the shoulder into his rib cage.

I did mine on Saturday and I'd have to say my hip is the sorest it's been today. Bloody thing is gravel rashed, yellow, purple and swollen. :(

A bloke got hit once when I was on the HR about 10 years ago. The guy who hit him came off too, so an ambo was sent to the scene. The ped was out cold, apparently. Nasty.

Another option would be to get another seat tube clamp and have it machined parrallel inside, ie., remove the lip so it can then be slid down to just above your welds and clamped. This should help to stop that area flexing and cracking again.

I got allocated ONE night at the track only !! The whole track cycling thing is sold out, the mountain bike race is too if you can believe that, it's free but you need a ticket for it, how they can sell that out is beyond me, since when was MTB racing so popular?

Good news is the badminton and squash still have plenty of tickets available. :)

OMG, the damage to the bike is much worse than it first seemed... Checked it over after I got home and found that one of the end-plugs is missing from the handlebars!!!! :eek: :)

OMG, did you ride it like that?? You'd better hang it up until you can get that looked at.
