30% of businesses fail within the first year, 60% within 3 years. But they keep coming back for more... And the government does nothing to encourage it. I understand the duties payable on certain items. Good to see them protecting the domestic photo/bicycle/electronics industry. Lowering/eliminating duties would lower prices, which might actually encourage commerce. |
There already is a global shift in the way many countries are conducting business, with the emergence of China as world manufacturing super power (these guys are growing a huge rate and they reckon still another 20 years worth of growth at their current levels 11/12%), you will notice many countries, especially resource rich countries like Australia becoming more of a supplier of materials and less of a manufacturer them selves. It has been seen with the Taiwan and Hong Kong of old. Until China gets a middle class and the cost of living improves (thus becomes more expensive and wages rise) the world is going to shift in this manner. That is why many super powers are scared of China.
With the ease that we can obtain goods from OS, it is becoming more and more difficult, especially for small business to start up and survive. Their definitely needs to be more Govt subsidies for small business etc... However this is where I will stop my rant for I am only really familiar with the manufacturing side of things. mmmm sub way for lunch |
And here's my courier with another box of bike goods purchased in the states at a fraction of their retail price. Maybe it's not so bad here...

I'm gunna get Hilton Clark to bring his motor pacer just so I can keep up. |

Hey doesn't the AFL season start tonight -- Wizard Cup? Sydney and the Doggies?
Woo-hoo -- football is back. Something to listen to on the trannie while beating out the kays on a rando training ride! (sorry guys, cricket on the radio just doesn't quite do it for me). |
It's a good thing I was busy this arvo, and you guys kept the thread on track. Otherwise it would have been nothing but me going off about the government and how they stifle commerce. Paolo Zegna has done more for NSW than Johnny Howard has.

Oh absolutely. We used to get Yibberder-yibberder (geez, that's hard to type), but last season they went with Newman and the Nine stand-in comedy team. It's all excellent stuff. I'll toss the sound on the idiot box, and mix'n'match with the radio if I'm at home.
People either love or hate Newman, but what I like about him is he doesn't take himself seriously. And *****, at his age with a physique like that, and a missing kidney -- the guy takes care of himself, too. |
Guess the fact that the front of his house is a huge picture of Pamela Anderson, he enjoys dressing up as a woman on TV, and is a misogynist makes him a top bloke. Did I mention he had a FACELIFT.
In a word? W-A-N-K-E-R. Can we talk about commerce and politics again? At least that was interesting. :) Meh, farkit. I'l gunna call it a day and go have a few bevvies. No, wait, I'll go fo' a little spin THEN have a few bevvies. Oh, and if you're in Melbourne and you're listening to MMM instead of The Ghost on RRR, you're a sad excuse for a human being. THAT IS ALL. |

Make note:
Don't mentioned Sam Newman when Thylacine is posting. Make note: If ever get tickets to the Footy Show, don't offer any to Thylacine to avoid massacre. Make note: Wonder which of Sam Newman's exploits belonged to Thylacine. Make note: If I lived my life over, I would prefer to be a free-wheeling former footballer and now TV star with lots of moula than a wizened up old cycling guy trying to persuade people he has the solution to their cycling needs. |
Hey guys
Tiger (Thylacine) is having a nervous breakdown over on Politics and Religion. I don't feel qualified to help because I like Sam Newman (in fact, I think might have caused this crisis). Can someone go over there and help him out by posting something... anything? |

Geez Rowan, sorry to offend you and your lover there mate. *laugh* Didn't realised you were so passionate as to run to his defence and then lay in with the personal insults. Nice work. |
Yes, I'm gunna right half a page on Sam Neman:p
As I've said before, I'm a bit a closet bogan, and it's hard not to like footy when you were "breast fed" on it, as Hooskey used to say. However, I can't sit and watch a whole game anymore. Anyway, Sam is a bit of a legend, even though his humour is so low-brow that "low-brow" is not low enough, and dido for the sexist stuff. He doesn't take himself seriously on air, but you do here plenty of "don't you know who I am" stories around town. And those cars and the surgery.....Jeeesus!! Ever heard the highly profound and articulate expression, "he who absolutely doesn't give a stuff has the most power"? This is really why I like him: he doesn't give a stuff about his radio job so much that he ain't scared to ask anyone 'anythink', or offend any fat-headed footballer, or say whatever he wants. He's not a try-hard on air. There's no one else around that would give so much shit to the likes of Dermy. :p He will get stuck into anyone |

I owe Thylo a lot. Thanks to a huge and potentially liablous argument he had with Don D. a while ago, I had to look up "obsfucation". I still can't even spell it. Is it a word?:p Does it mean to take what someone says then distort it?
|
Nev, look up 'condescending' too so Rowan can add it to his list of achievements for the day.
