Poor SBS. What a clusterfück. One stage we miss out on a sprint for points between green jersey contenders because they neglect to bother showing the second group come to the line. Then in another stage Cadel goes off the front, then 10 minutes he's magically been caught by the chase group. THEN last night they figure 'Who'd mind if we cut to the cricket during the last stage of the Tour?"

I'm sorry, but stiff shît if the cricket is rained out.

Rock and a hard place, poor buggers.

climbo 07-24-05 07:29 PM

haven't seen last night but yes, a bit annoying that they cut in at any moment with cricket updates....wasn't it advertised to us as being live, every minute of the Tour in 2005 ?? If so, then yes, the viewers and sponsors should be annoyed.

Hello Australians,

At the recent Tour de Gastown in Vancouver I saw that most of the female riders were wearing black armbands in memory of the recent tragedy in Germany.

Thanks 'rus, you're quite welcome to call us Aussies ! Australians is so formal.

Very nice touch, I'm sure many of the girls racing there knew Amy.

Great town Vancouver, love it there.

A couple of Aussie males placed in the top 4 too. :)

I know SBS had commitments, and I love me cricket, but it was pretty obvious that the Poms weren't gunna last very long, so I dunno why they couldn't have taped it, and played the cricket after......I would've stayed up to watch it! :)

badsac 07-24-05 09:01 PM

Well, there's the end of my first tour. And sad I am. To watch it really does feel like a special event. Like the Olympics. So to cut away like they did was just rediculous. You lot know I'm a cricket nut, but we'll see enough of the poofs running around on the fair lawns of England over the next month. Nobody woudl have given half a fark if they had of had some condensed highlights of the cricket after the tour was finished. Blardy disgrace.

I'd send something to that address of jocks up there if I wasn't so lazy. Want to send something for me jock? ;)

BTW, I know I'm not allowed to like, or even think positive things about Lance, but I really am glad I got to see him go around once before he retired. There was a stupid "Worlds 10 best sportsmen" in the Daily Terrible over the weekend. They had Lance in 4th behind Roger Federer for ****s sake. What a farce. Nah, Lance isn't a bad peddler. Shame he isn't Australian.

Thylacine 07-24-05 09:17 PM

No, it's cool to like Armstrong. I think he's an amazing individual in his own way, but he's just the architype Seppo, and with the amount of foaming-at-the-mouth fanboy rubbish that goes on here, SOMEONE has to counter it by reminding people about some of the absudities that come along with being and archetype and an athlete.

Such as -

1) He's the worst thing thats happened to cycling since Lemond :D
2) He's sponsored by Nike, who's owner is not only a crackpot fascist cult leader but has also been fully busted for dodgy labour practices in the Pacific Rim.
3) We don't need a obsessive compulsive genetic freak to remind us about Cancer and sell us stupid little yellow wristbands. If I want to do something like that, I'll donate 10% of my wages to charity and go visit my Grandma's, grandads, best friends' graves. Oh, I already do.

etcetera.

:D

Oh, almost forgot. GO VINO! :)

HDTVKSS 07-24-05 09:18 PM

glad i was sick and didnt stay up..... dissapointing in what i thought was a not too bad effort by SBS, sure it wasnt perfect, but what coverage is?i will write and express my dis-satisfaction. hopefully they will show an extended telecast tonight to make up for it...

On that subject, I just learned now from a mate who doesn't know cycling and only knows lance from his cameo in dodgeball, that he's ordered a yellow armband this week. Who says this stuff aint pervasive. ;)

They probably will. And it'll be filled with cricket coverage for sure :

Fat Boy Biker 07-24-05 10:30 PM

You guys should be proud of Cadel Evans. He was fun to watch. I had a slightly biased opinoin though, since my last name is Caddel pronounced the same way as Cadel. It really threw my wife for a loop when she here Phil say Cadel on television.

Steve
-maybe I'll be famous someday, but it wont be as a rider in the TdF

Thylacine 07-24-05 10:36 PM

Pride is a Sin, so naturally we don't partake of that down here Mr.Caddel, but yes, good on Cadel for his inspired riding.

Saccy - That mate of yours is a dropkick. Dissassociate yourself at once!

jock 07-24-05 10:53 PM

I was rootin for ol' Stu mostly this year, but yer right: Cadel put on a fine show near the end.

Most of the tour he just shadowed Lance. I wonder why :D Big things next year if he's fit and strong.

HobartDave 07-24-05 11:31 PM

How's this for a training accident: http://www.cyclingnews.com/mtb.php?i...5/jul21mtbnews

Sid Taberlay hits a bear

climbo 07-24-05 11:52 PM

what a classic, poor bugger, soundslike it hit him hard !!

crank'n 07-25-05 12:39 AM

SBS arent stupid , theres a TDF 'highlights' dvd in the making, for anything that was missed due to the cricket.
Aussies kicked ass in the cricket, lance won the TDF, both predictable id say. A new leader next year for the TDF.

Shhh. I haven't followed the tour closely since LeMond was big, and after that I caught a few minutes of Indurain. Who's this Armstrong guy?

Who were you rootin', his missus or yours?

badsac 07-25-05 02:17 AM

Okay, quick question for youse bike mechanics here. Earlier this year my mtb wasn't shifting down to smaller cogs on the back very well. LBS said cable was stuffed so they replaced it, it shifted down to smaller cogs again so I didn't worry. Anyway, only probably been on 5 rides on it since, the last one being my adventure race in the rain where the deraileur cage came apart and I lost the jockey wheels. So anyway put a used LX cage on then go for a ride and it wont go back down again. Pay attention to the cabling they did and it looks pretty rough. Still it's only a few months old so it shouldn't be the problem. The deraileur is like a 15 year old STX jobbie, so I was wondering if the spring in those things goes slack, and stops pulling like it used to?

giantbike 07-25-05 02:54 AM

One hint I can give is check if the derailer will put the chain onto the smallest cog when you loosen the cable,as doing this should eliminate the effect of the cable pulling. If it doesn't,then check if the high gear limiter screw is set right for its outer limit travel,as this could be the culprit that stop your chain from going further outward.hope this helps.

berny 07-25-05 03:23 AM

My email to SBS;

I was absolutely appalled at your decision to switch to the cricket last night, right in the middle of the crucial, final moments of the race. What a joke! You advertised the cycling would run 11.00PM till 2.00AM. I sat up to see the Tour but then in a moment of absolute ridicule you give the cycling a back seat to the cricket.
I cannot for the life of me understand your logic. It's not as though cricketing fans in any significant numbers would have been sitting up at 2.00AM just in case the rain stopped. Then to add insult to injury, you give casual coverage of the finish and cut straight back to cricket. No presentation, no final placings, no sprinter details no fanfare.
You've disappointed a whole lot of people and made many of us very angry, and I personally will be loath to watch your channel again.
I think I'll accept your inference that cycling fans aren't terribly important to your channel and go watch my sport elsewhere.

Thanks heaps for that. Well, it's not the limiting screws as it wont come back from even the biggest cog. I'll try seeing what it does without the cable, but I would have thought all cable would have friction which the spring might or might not be able to overcome?

badsac 07-25-05 03:31 AM

berny, they did show the pressos after cricket was finished if that makes any difference, ;)

Brian 07-25-05 04:04 AM

As I understand it, you guys are staying up very late to watch re-runs of some Texan riding his bike? Really now, how many times can you watch the same show, knowing the ending is always the same? :D

badsac 07-25-05 04:24 AM

First time for me. It was all shiny and amazing. Didn;t even miss the sleep. Work missed me though. :p

Saccy, I tried rool hard to stay awake for the cycling after the cricket. But they put on every wicket to fall that day. Then all of McGrath's wickets for the match. Then the world's three most boring commentators (OK, moe tried hard) to stage for 10 minutes. Then cricket presentations. Then...

you get the drift. most ppl who have to get up at 5 to go to werk would have been starting to struggle just a little bit.
