McGee followed O'Grady [4th] across the line but Philippe Gilbert is given 5th**********
What's the story?

It wasn't him. This excerpt from his website "Me? Quiet day in the end as all I could do was sit in and hope destiny brought all riders back to a bunch gallop and a chance for a stage victory. With guys like Jensey and Rasmussen on missions this was not to be. So my rest day began on the summit of the final Cat 1 climb 50km's from home"

How surprising. But then he did think Magnus Backstedt was Tom Boonen the other day.

jock 07-11-05 04:55 PM

yeah, both he and Paul have made a coupla duff calls this year. Only minor, except for not knowing the name of a certain stage winner. Now what was his name?

climbo 07-11-05 04:57 PM

come on now, Maggy and Boonen look very much the same, they even both have some green on their jerseys :D

It's... it's....., no hang on, it's........ oh sh1t, I don't know who the hell that is.

I guess they are watching the race on an 8" screen on the back of a truck in the height of a French summer....

Not ideal conditions.

climbo 07-11-05 04:59 PM

not ideal but what a great job !! Sipping french wine, eating cheese, watching the race every day.

I just like saying Leaky-Gas.

Paul din know what to call them the other day. The trouble started on the first day when Phil called them Leaky-Gas and continued to do so for 7 days straight. On the eight day he started calling them Liqui-Gas. Paul ended up chopping and changing between the two. :D

Reminds me of Dave Zabriskie's "one question interview" with Charly Wegelius.

That's gold.

I predict that this stage will not be won by a sprinter.

climbo 07-11-05 07:59 PM

fark, you're going out on a limb there...

jock 07-11-05 08:18 PM

OK then, I like the look of some of the guys with OV in their names: VINOKOUROV, PETROV, MENCHOV, ARMSTROV, POPOVYCH.

These guys might be strong too PINEAU, BROCHARD, and PEREIRO, and MOOS.

BOTERO won't figure. VOIGT, MOREAU, and RASSMUSSEN will be tired and will just keep a watch on proceedings.

climbo 07-11-05 08:44 PM

what about Basso, Frigo, Mancebo and Vicioso?

189 starters - (coupla drop-outs + sprinters and domestiques + 17 mentioned so far) = only 80 other riders with chances left to mention :D

climbo 07-11-05 08:55 PM

well at least one of them MUST win it !! I'll wager $50.

HDTVKSS 07-11-05 09:31 PM

Ill go out on a limb and say Ulrich. (please god let it be Ulrich......) . Maybee Basso's time to show his hand as well.

ed073 07-11-05 09:37 PM

Kloedi to win.

He gave us all a warning the other day!

Thylacine 07-11-05 10:32 PM

Um, isn't it a rest day today?

Australian cyclist Mark French has been cleared on appeal by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. French was banned for two years in 2004 after an earlier hearing found that he had used and trafficked in prohibited substances, corticosteroid (allegedly contained in a supplement preparation called Testicomp) and equine growth hormone (eGH).
