so, should I try some 180mm cranks, or what?

I reckon John F Kennedy might have some old ones I could borrow or buy cheap

Yeah.....they all think they are Greg LeMond.

rockmuncher 03-10-05 09:51 PM

Hmmmmm... sound logic there 531... I'm guessing you shoulda taken the blue pill while you had the chance, coz the red pill clearly isn't werkin :p

that's where I was heading!

531Aussie 03-10-05 10:07 PM

Like I told Ed, the Mighty Lennard Zinn actually returned my email, and said I should be on 180s ;)

Big John Kennedy has sold all his old 180s, so I won't be spending 600 bucks on some DA cranks just to try them out :(

rockmuncher 03-10-05 10:10 PM

Sorry 531, but I never miss a chance at a free shot. Suffice to say, your cycling abilities won't be significantly improved by going to 180mm cranks on a whim. [EDIT] Sorry, I hadn't realised you were under advice from a higher order being!

But if they were diamond encrusted super-bling cranks and you could only get them in 180mm, then it would make perfect sense.

ed073 03-10-05 10:11 PM

Get them in the French tricolor like Thomas Voeckler.

Coooooool.....

.

eh, go for it :p

Rings a bell, actually.

I once said to an old bike shop/racer guy that maybe I should sit high because I read that Indurain goes a bit higher for a time-trial (I think). The bike shop guy misunderstood me, and shouted:
"don't go comparing yourself to Indurain, you dickhead, because you're not as good as him."

Prick....pissed me off at the time

rockmuncher 03-10-05 10:18 PM

I've noticed that senile dementia sets in earlier in those guys. Thay're cranky old farts until you start talking shop then they get 10 times worse!

rockmuncher 03-10-05 10:23 PM

I dunno if I ever posted this before, so apologies if I have...

This guy was one of those blokes who didn't know the difference between a discussion and an argument. If you asked more than one question about something he suggested, he thought you we challenging his "wisdom", and took great offence, but he was a farkin MONSTER rider, so it was sometimes worth it

Yeah, but did you check out the reflection in the shopfront glass? Bogus guys don't pay that much attention to detail.

531Aussie 03-10-05 10:34 PM

aaah, I reckon you'd be clever enough to do the reflection, so maybe he/she was :p

rockmuncher 03-10-05 10:35 PM

Notice how the other guys in the Fixie post piccie are taking pity on the poor guy? NOT

531Aussie 03-10-05 10:36 PM

Now, THIS one is bogus; look at them all laughing

Brilliant! I spent all of my teen years careening around Newcastle velodrome. zactly the same pitch. If you weren't skilled you would slide straight down (sideways) when your opponent pulled a track-stand at the top of the bank.

Havent had much of a chance to see to much yet for I am just outside Amsterdam city at the moment, but over the weekend going to go exploring with a chick from London that I meet on the flight over.

Was interesting, was a little skeptical at first, but it was ok. Got to try most things once, or at least attempt to try them I reckon. Wonder what I can find to eat over the weekend.

Thinking of hring a bike and going for a ride around the city, they say it is a good way to see the place.
