Your got to have a few hills in the ride :p The worst part is out just past Swansea I find. Would be a killer in a head wind. I have only done it a couple of times though. Been doing more running than riding lately. Trying to get rid of this belly that the cursed beer has given me

I agree. Just about everything I watch I tape, so I obviously fast-forward all the crap, including:

Everything that Mike "Mike Moore" Tomilaris says
All the contest crap
Anything with chick cyclists (fairdinkum; it's as bad as watching chicks playing footy:p)

I therefore get through it in about 14 minutes!

Oh, and Gerard Knapp: what a natural in front of the camera!!

It's great to have any cycling show at all, but it could be much better. For example, I don't think they understand just how much we're into equipment.

Ok Yes, I think it could be done better but then given the support that the local community gives to cycling, including the majority cyclists, (except for riding) and particularly the Australian corporate sector, I'm surprised they can find sufficient $$$$ to do what they do. I mean how often do people contact the media to provide details of cycling activities like competitions, what, who, when, where etc? How many of us want to get involved in the organisation of bike racing? Most, pretty much want to turn up and race then go straight back home to the Xbox.
When sailing was my passion I tried desperately to get things happening on a more professional level only to get shat on by all the participants who simply wanted go racing and stuff everything else connected with the sport. It cost me a lot of time and money to find out just how apathetic they all were.
Sorry for the rant but I know how hard it is and I guess I have more sympathy for what they are trying to.
Can I suggest that you contact them to find out what we can do to help make it what we want.

Gerard Knapp.....nearly as good in front of a camera as Matty Lloyd in that AFL Hall of Fame ad.

531Aussie 03-29-05 12:39 AM

All Matty Lloyd can say is: "yeah nah, that's right, Eddie"

SEN used to have Sportsmen's wives on for a bit of a laugh, and they once had Lloyd's misses on. After finding out that the Lloyds didn't have cutesy nicknames for each other, Garry Lyon asked calllers for suggestions. One guy rang up and suggested: "Dumb and Dumber"

Classy.

531Aussie 03-29-05 12:47 AM

It's funny coz she though she was great.....and was bed-ridden with anxiety after the whole footy public p1ssed their pants laughing at her.

Hi guys, Just joined the forum. Live in Melbourne, a bit new to cycling, but done a few km's. Is there somewhere I could catch up on some rides through the week which I might be able to tag along on....nothing too hard for a start?

Thanks for any help,
Cheers,

scroz 03-29-05 05:17 AM

Welcome dude!

Hegemony 03-29-05 05:30 AM

Thanks, just sittin here waitin for my bike....just bought a new bike after agonizing over the choice for a week.

Brian 03-29-05 03:50 PM

Tell us what you bought. Don't be shy, no matter how nice it is, we'll find a way to pick on it.

rockmuncher 03-29-05 04:11 PM

Expat, what is that little red star next to your sig?!?

You wait until you only post once a day and then pay your dues? That dun make sense at any level. :D

It was free.

Thylacine 03-29-05 04:37 PM

I think you get a red star for not piddling your pants or not showing the girls your weiner. Something like that.

Looks like I'm out of the running then.

Hegemony 03-29-05 04:48 PM

I was trying to decide between a giant TCR with full 105. a OCR 0 with ultegra (very good value, nice package). and a bianchi with campy veloce. The bianchi has carbon forks, rear stays etc.

No prizes for which one I bought. I found the italian stallion to be irrisistable. I couldn't believe I was not buying the giant though....a bit lighter, such good value at the moment, but I think not so comfortable on longer rides and a little less stable on descents than the bianchi. And the Bianchi comes in that beautiful celeste color!!!!! How could anyone resist!!!

Alright, ready for you to poke fun....I wont notice cause I'll be out riding or in fantasy land with Bianchi!

Cheers

Let's not get too carried away, he's a Melbournite after all. But points for resisting the giant tho

I've always presumed that the worst component on any bike was the rider.

My first bike was a Malvern Star Olympic 12 in 1986. Whatever crap components that had on it.....

I had an Apollo 10 speed in about the same year, not really counted as a serious bike for me though, it took second fiddle to my Malvern Star dirt jumper/BMX/cruiser piece of junk. Proper road bikes came much later...
