Same 10 gear cluster externally, but direct drive and a 1:0.96 INTERNAL slip ratio. It's not impossible to imagine.

Back soon, I'm just off to the patent office...

See!! That's what I'm talken bout!

Yeah, the number of times I've been in a sprint and wished I'd had an 11.5...

[edit], but that's all it would take. A 100 tooth outside ring, a gear assembly with a 100 tooth cog and a 96 tooth cog, a shifting mechanism, and viola... half ratios all the way down the cluster.

I'm assuming you are pointing your puzzled look in my direction :p

this morning wattsy mumbled summint about gears...future...how many...dreamin... so I answered. Now put your engineering cap on... oh never mind. Wait for three years and then buy it.

BTW, has anyone heard about some R&D on semi-automatic gears coming out of the Campag factory? Summint about computer deciding that the gear you've chosen isn't quite right and adjusting it automatically?

climbo 04-04-05 10:40 PM

ok, YES, I know about that. Campyonly.com has a lot of info on it. Electronic but wired unlike Mavic's system. I think someone had it last year in prototype, one of the Saeco boys it was. Not sure I'd wanna mess with it, too much of a pain to fix the system.

Correct. Simoni was using it at the Giro.

Anyone remember Mavic Zap?

As if I knew any of these places. I ride towards Kotara and head up Fernleigh track. Bucky and his mates met me at the BP. If you guys are driving in, doesn't matter where I suppose, but there would be parking by Maurice Mathes. Hell, you guys let me know when and where. Did I hear someone mention a BBQ? I can make some real Mexican food if ya'll have a hankerin'.

Munchie, how about a Shimano Nexus 7 (or 8) speed internal hub, with an old 5 speed cassette and a double up front? 70 or 80 gears to choose from. Or go compact, and keep just the 11-17 portion of your cassette, with small rings up front, but still on the Nexus hub. Personally, I think anything over 50 gears is a waste. :D

badsac 04-05-05 03:50 AM

Bah, my old 920's just about given up the ghost and things are going to get real expensive real quick, so I'm trying to do some research on MTB's with the thought of getting a cheapie around $1000 to tide me over.

Expat, or anyone in the know, care to have a quick squiz at this thing and tell me if it's alright, or if he's dreaming?

Tell 'em he's dreamin'. Actually, other than the fact that I know nothing about Avanti frames, it seems spec'd pretty well. I'll sell you some black cages and a black stem, and you'll have a sweet bike. Is he local to you? If you're the gambling type, and not in any hurry, and aren't totally smitten with this bike and will survive if you don't get it, email or PM me and I'll give you a few tips on how you may be able to get it for less. Or not.

badsac 04-05-05 04:24 AM

Thanks Expat. Yeah, no not smitten. He's not local to me or anything so would be a bit of a risk. I'll rip a PM up you for some tips for sure though. This is a bit of a learning exercise for me.

Alright, then Maurices it is. At least we can drown our sorrows at the Gates Hotel after the ride. Sort it out with buckey et al & let us know what time...

Brian 04-05-05 04:43 AM

You've got your PM, and my trade secrets too. Use the knowledge for good, not evil.

rockmuncher 04-05-05 06:20 AM

I hope you saved a copy. You never know, I might even like the upcoming bike event without pavement
