Hey Expat. Answer me this. Can you swap in modern V-Brakes like Avid Single Digit 7's etc instead of old cantilevers like my old Trek 920's got?

Oh, at one stage I was a bit sus' on the reliability of one of my Cateyes, so I was using 2 -- obviously with one on each side. :p It was approaching the end of a year, and I didn't wanna lose my odometer reading.

I hold the sensors in place on the spokes with not only the screw, but also some Shoe Goo, so I can't be bothered trying to get the extra one off.

Yup. You'll need levers too though, unless you want to use Travel Agents or something similar.

i have the map of glenrock, 3 mb if you want me to send it over. i still have no idea where we went though. :)

Brian 05-16-05 03:19 PM

done. seems like you can ride all the way down to the beach in a few places and back up the other side. Plenty of potential out there.

Really? I would have thought a lever was a lever. Anyway. Now to find someone who sells avid brakes. Doing a google, it seems nobody in Australia does. How bizzare.

climbo 05-16-05 06:13 PM

v-brakes generally need a lot more cable pull than a canti as they are linear, so depending on the levers you have, when you pull it, the cable may not move far enough to get good braking.

E-bay?

I have to confess, in the last week I've bought 2 frames and a complete bike from e-bay. It's a bad habit but man they were so cheap !!! I couldn't help it.

Now I need a post style Campy front derailleur, better go searching...

badsac 05-16-05 06:25 PM

For real? I've been looking for mountain bikes on ebay for months but can't really come accross any good deals. I don't know what I'm missing.

I haven't been looking for v brakes on ebay for long, but they don't seem to have much. Plenty of disks. No v's.

climbo 05-16-05 06:30 PM

i got road frames, didn't look at MTB's, one of those is enough for me at the moment. :)

[edit]
P.S. I may have some Avid's, I have discs these days so may have some v-brakes for you, i'll check if I still have them at home tonight.

ed073 05-16-05 06:35 PM

First class job Thylacine. I even my wife will appreciate that shirt when it arrives. I just hope she doesn't claim it!

Did you here the guys on SEN talking about Allan Peiper?

I forgot that he was such a good junior....and they said, "no wonder he got sick; he was so broke he was living on spinach leafs that he would steel from a farm, and tomato sauce"

Yep. That's a famous story. Peiper is a dead-set legend.....17 and dropped off in Flanders.

The bit about sleeping on the butcher's floor is in Stephen Roche's book, I think. They rode at ACBB together with Yatesy, Ando, Kimmage, Millar etc

ed073 05-16-05 07:50 PM

Did you hear Magnus Michaelsen the runner?? He had some good stories.

531Aussie 05-16-05 07:52 PM
