I traded up to a Repco Victory Tri-A in 1988. (cromoly 3 main tubes......cool!) 12-speed and QR front and rear wheels. Wicked 80s smoky green-to-white fade paintjob.

Still had the uber-dorky pannier mounting holes on the dropouts and forks, though.

I 'stole' my first bike off my older brother who had just bought a bennet 10 speed. It was a Speedco SS (42/17 I think) with rusty buckled wheels and a leather seat that eventually wore down to the frame at the front. I got pulled over three times for 'speeding' down scenic drive on that thing Those were the days [sigh]

From the bottom of the hill in Knox (?) up to the top where the pub is on FTG Rd used to be great for in the saddle efforts. Especially if you had 150kms of Dandenongs/Yarra Valley "goodness" in the legs already.

Yeah, Scoresby, then up to the pub. Absolute murder after a hard day in the Dandenongs, but my "hard day" was more like 80kms.

Used to go over the 1 in 20, come back that way then race at VFL Park.

Makes it hard to close the gap to an anorexic Caxdel Evans in the howling crosswinds they get out there when the legs had cried enough 20kms ago....

In that case they would have given it to me, then taken it back.

They're early 'cow horn' aero, cut down drops.

They look comfy enough for hood riding, but it looks like you would have to move your whole body forward 4"-6" to unstraighten your arms enough to get a decent braking grip. Although I'm sure it couldn't be that bad in practise, could it?

The seat looks mighty comfy tho... 1984 Concor by any chance?

Funnily enuf I had a top day on an undulating course yesterday, 20 minute intervals no less, and it was one of those spectacular "on" days where everything felt brilliant. Even the undulations. I wish every tough ride was like that.
