Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

Kinda long post, but worth reading. There's 5 races for each class at BMX. Race 4 is a "Rolling" race, where you pedal like mad until the first jump, then have to try to roll the rest of the way around the track by "Pumping" the bike over the jumps and rythym sections. Funny, that's what I do every race. I was under the impression that was saved for the last race of the night, so when I lined up for race 4, and the guy next to me says it's the rolling race, I didn't think he was serious. Not that anyone there's taking the piss out of the new American guy or anything. The gate drops, and everyone shoots out like they're being chased by a mad dog. Going into the first turn, I'm thinking "Damn, I'm in the lead!". Then I notice I'm the only dickhead pedalling.

As if that wasn't bad enough, I didn't maintain enough momentum to get all the way around the track. Luckily I didn't have my number yet, so no one will remember me. I hope.

[edit] I've got some Ultegra cranks with a BB on the way (slow boat) but Munchie's got first shot at making an offer. Customer loyalty and all.

aloominum Record comes in 177.5 and 180, but not carbon

They struggled to get carbon to 175mm initially as well.

Would you ride on carbon cranks? Fark, I wouldn't

Do you know if Scapin is sponsoring anyone else?

What's the BB stiffness of yours like?

yeah...probably. Those carbon FSAs Voeckler has with the cutout bit in French tricolour look the shiznit.

Scapin.....don't think so. Stratospherically expensive now.....just a boutique builder I guess.

BB is rock solid. Ultrafoco that goes kind of oval shaped at the BB......but Arnaud Tournant I'm not.

I've gotta admit, my "perve" ride includes checking out the Scapins in the window of Bike Life in Auburn Rd

Man, they had an EOS 3 frame there last year for about $2700.
Looked great; it had that "St Kilda" paint job

Trying to grimly hang on to my yoof.....lucky I don't still have the Merckx....57cm and a 14cm ITM stem jammed down low, Bjarne Riis-style. I reckon I could ride that for 30 minutes max these days.

I think yer stuffed re Sidi. Not much give in that Lorica.

Naw, it expands when hot, but appears to 'shrink' back when you take them off. Well, my Sidis haven't changed since I bought them 3 years ago, and I suspect that Lorica is no different now.

2700 for a Scapin? Sheesh, my Tephra costs that much, and they're custom. And purdy.

Hrm......Record cranks in 180? Might have to go there some day. Never ridden with Campy for more than 5 minutes, so when upgrade time comes I might just do a Record/Chorus mix.

Wasn't there a post a while back sayin that the shirt thing was just a ruse, and Thylo had spent all the money on a shiny new Aluminium speedster?

That's what I heard. Apparently development stalled on his bamboo prototype, and he's since seen the light.

[edit] I'm sure he'll be purchasing either an American Made Cannondale, or a nice Trek like his hero, Lance.

Ok sorry guys a bit off topic here but since I am in England its a bit hard for me to find out. If any of you are Footy supporters have you heard of a FF for the Bulldogs called Lindsay Gilbee? I have been thinking of putting him in my fantasy footy team this week but I was wondering how the bulldogs are going and if he is worth the risk??

Mate...Lindsay Gilbee is on fire at the moment. One of the top ranked players on the Dream Team list.

It seems that every time the Dogs run it out of defence, he get's his hands on it......and with Rocket so keen to employ the flood, he's getting tons of uncontested possesions.

Lock him in.

I've got Murphy, West and Cooney from the Dogs already.....but Gilbee is the pick of the bunch.

SICK thanks man he is as good as in. I have been in terrible form this year, what with starting a team having no idea about the leadup to the season
