I'll throw some flats on there. Don't worry, they use old chainsaw chains to keep your feet from slipping. Or I do have some with with the little spikes.

Got back from the RTA big ride yesterday. Was a bit of fun. ****ty conditions with rain on half the days though, including about 100mm in Dalgetty. I didn't know carbon fibre could rust.
If I had of known the conditions would suck I would have taken the old beater mountainbike. My bike has a couple of cloudy areas on the top tube where my number rubbed which sucks. So if any of you know how to take cloudyness/fine scratches out of clear coat I'd really appreciate it. Also some tips on what kind of servicing to give my bike after spending to much time in the rain. I've cleaned/degreased and lubed the chain, rear and front deraileur. Anything else I should do? Noticed rust in a little hole on the undersides of the hoods of both shifters that concerned me. Is there anything I should be doing with the shifters to make sure they don't stuff up before their time?

I'd try a non-gel toothpaste. The mildest polish I can think of.

Shall I start on the letter of excommunication?
Sign this before you leave:
I am an American.
I hereby renounce all the trappings of Australia.
I renounce all blessings, benefits, graces, sanctifications, and advantages supposedly conferred on me by any country other than the USA, or by any act of misplaced patriotism performed by me or on my behalf in the past, present or future.
I condemn as monstrous the idea of road bikes, and renounce any fitting of training wheels on my behalf as an infant.
I reject as ridiculous the idea of a peaceful thread about nothing and spurn its presumed benefits.
I do not believe that any decent beer, cracker barbie or bonza shiela exists, and will not act as if they did.
I do not believe that any road bike is worthy, regardless of frame material, and will not pretend that they are.
I do not think that posting on the Aussie thread is anything more than talking to oneself and will not make believe that it is.
I do not believe that any colour of shoe is more sanctified than any other, or that any human being should be elevated above another in any way, due to bike choice, club membership, gender, occupation, favourite beer or for any other reason and will not feign that I do.
As a principled and rational person, it pains me that someone, somewhere may be counting me as an adherent of an irrational love of tandem mountain bikes which has done and is doing irreparable harm to humanity and with which I profoundly disagree. Please remove my name from the records of the Aussie thread, and record that I am no longer an Aussie. Please send me confirmation of this action. Please do this as soon as possible.

A bit harsh, don't you think? I mention we're moving, and you guys are holding the door open, booking tickets and packing my stuff. Don't come knocking when you need something shipped from the states...

Oh dear, he's started taking things seriously already. Must be terribly difficult being an American! So much pressure to perform
Don't be taking offence tho, Expat. I reckon the lads will let you remain an honorary Aussie (in absentia).

All this talk of weaponry an blood fueds is making me thirsty.
I reckon we should skip melted crayons next time I'm up your way, and head straight for the brewery for an ale or two instead. That means a late morning or afternoon ride tho. Whatdya reckon?

That means heat, it cuts into my time with my wife, and it cuts into my BMX practice. Ok, I lied about the last bit. I'm not much of a drinker either - blood sugar issues. Oh, wait! You mean after we all go on a big MTB ride!! Yeah, that's cool. Except those *****ers that I ordered my Cannondale part from sat on my payment for a week before telling me the item is no longer available.
