Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Munch, have you ridden mtb before? need to plan route based on your abilities

Ouirmbah - 10km x-country track plus downhill
WoyWoy - lots of easy grade firetrail plus super tech little Moab
Kincumber - lots of steep rock-strewn firetrail climbs/descents

No cars buzzing you or road debris, however Kincumer has shocking mozzys, woy-woy has the stench of the tip and hige spiders & Ourimbah has red-belly blacks

Does your coach know you're missing Akuna bay for a 'smash'? Or are you ridding down there before hand?

"TFM" bike shop boy went FLYYYING in huge, 55kmh smash during last night's group ride.

I didn't see exactly what happened, but I think he clipped two chicks that the group were passing.

Six dudes went down, and the ambulance was still there 40 mins later when I was on my way back.

Only about ten of us stopped (out of about 60) -- nice touch

Most of them are kinda snobbish, bike shop boys, with their pseudo "sponsorships"

I used to ride my old beach-clunker on the road. Does that count? Does moab mean mother-of-a-biketrail? I choose kincumber + aeroguard. Who's bringing the mercurachrome?

MOAB is lots of smooth rock...
I reccomend woywoy minus the tech section. Cant have you going better than me first day out on those filthy steep no traction climbs at kincumber!
What time and how long?

Yep, thats one section of the woy woy trails and links up with thommos loop, mullet creek, mt wondabyne and down to the tip. You can go up and over to pearl beach, via the Moab tech section and a really fun set of stairs near the trig point!

OK then, woy woy it is. You pick time & meet (its your ride after all). I just need to be back by 10/10:30 to play with the kids. I think it's one of expat's favourite sports this weekend: backyard cricket. More spiders to contend with

Yes. No posting during the day. Um, you suck for not coming out this way on the MTB, and for cricket and spider jokes. But you'll join us for a group ride when Bucky returns.

[edit] No, my attitude hasn't gotten any better. I now have 3 forks that I can't use on my Cannondale. The reducer arrived. Once the headset is installed the stack height is so high I can't even clamp a stem onto the fork. Maybe if I thrown another $100 note at it, I'll get somewhere. Pharquety pharque pahrque!

The thread is a quieter place these days...

As for not riding up your way, well it's slightly inconvenient as my car has a buggered alternator, thermostat stuck closed, and over-temp sensor not werking (meaning fans don't come on). One day, when I'm rich and famous, I'll be able to afford to fix it. In the meantime there are more important things like Thylacine Team Shirts, race bikes, etc. to buy
