Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

have looked at that ride before, i may give it a crack this weekend if i get the chance, if not it will be 3 or so weeks after racing is said and done Sunday next weekend.

Have seen the Tues + Wed night chaos. have also seen a few riders abused that have gotten in the road of pacelines, whos fault i have no idea, but makes for some interesting times!

Apparantly a couple of weeks ago some guy came off and nearly had his hand severed? not nice....

Hey Thylo.

Hows about in between swilling our hard earned funds away, you get my jersey when it comes along and sew some long sleeves and some nice warm lining in the thing for me.

Starting to get a bit cold out here. Might have to leave it until next summer for it's first wear.

Let me know if/when you're doing it and I'll join you.

I would have thought that it would be pretty hard to get in the way of a paceline if the guys in front are doing their job (avoiding obstacles, giving slower riders plenty of advance notice, etc). But some of the young hot-shots seem to have this "holier than thou" thing going, and get their rocks off giving others heaps for no good reason. Doesn't happen on the Akuna Bay ride thank god.

eh, i can handle myself on the bike. not really worried about abuse, but i generally tr and stay out of everyones way anyways. im more concerned about the numbers im seeing than chasing down somones wheel to prove i have big kahonas. its the cage drivers you gotta look out for...

interesting that Peleton does a lot of Sunday rides through the galston gorge, theres a death wish if i ever saw one!

Rockmuncher, was it you that stated ages ago you used to have a blue Bennett? i recently liberated one in bad condition ( frame is OK) from outside my nighbours garbage pile and was wondering if it was worth tinkering with?

no conspiracy, it's the NHL (National Hockey League) logo, it's just one of the ones you can choose from the selection in the profile set-up.

Devils rule !!

WTF is a cage driver? Car driver?

As for Galston Gorge, it's actually a pretty good ride but the young turks in the Peleton group go kamakaze due to high testosterone levels coupled with small brain size. Older, wiser folk meande down behind them at a safer pace (and distance!!)

The Bennett Mirage frame was pretty much a stock standard chrome-molly steelo, nothing exotic. It was a touring frame (see pannier lugs) that was light enuf to take club racing if you wanted to. Sold here as a poor mans racer with nice Suntour ARX components.

As for restoring one, it would make a nice fixxy or croozer if you had the patience. As with any rebuild make sure the frame is straight first.

From the Wheels of Justice blog:

Go to Google and type in: "Eugene McGee"

And the lyrics to Papa Roachs' Getting Away With Murder is the first website that appears... How apt.

Cool, some MTB stuff !!

And what's the Tour coverage, live? the last 3 hours of each stage or what? I thought we'd get the whole thing.

And yes, my child's mother is getting plenty of yummy gifts.
