BTW, I noticed that Waterrockets, during the course of this thread, has purchased a membership.
Only a few days ago he stated:
So, what made him decide to "buy in"?

I dunno, the ads went away, thankfully (though I did click through every so often). The yellow jersey was the gift. Maybe I should try a bigger avatar

Whatever dude. When WR himself decides to explain himself, I'll listen. But OWR is right along the others who see this for what it is-a chance to bash a company that didn't do what WR wanted. If WR hadn't been expecting a new frame, he would've gotten so bent out of shape at Trek when he didn't get one.
I don't care what he told you either. He chose to post something here in open forum that differs from what you say is the truth. That creates a situation where one you isn't being truthful.

No kidding. I was just trying to have a conversation. I have my views, others have theirs. There's no rule that we have to all agree, but he was all too happy to take it to the lowest common denominator. Of course, I willingly oblige.

To a certain degree I forgive Fleabag for his hostility. He owns a Trek...a $10.00 Taiwanese knock off Trek, but a Trek none the less. He's defending his bike company of choice against the evilness that is WR's horrible portrayal of the "bestest bike company evah"

You haven't explained anything!
You say WR never expected a frame, yet many posts he's made here indicate he did, if fact, expect a frame.
You say he emailed you that he didn't really expect a new frame, but he punishes Trek anyway.
Maybe you just are too close a friend or are afraid to embarass him or something.......
johnny: link? Do you even know what specific question EDR is avoiding answering?

It's a handshake. Hard to put a link on that.
That's nice too. But what's your distribution like? How many units do you put out there in a year? 100? 1000? 10,000?
It makes a difference. I build wheels and take care of questionable problems for people all the time. But I don't build thousands of sets a year. The more you make the more likely someone will try to abuse your policies.
Are larger businesses not held to the same standard as a smaller one? Has Trek stated that the bottom bracket was broke due to something other than pedaling?
Quite true. I stated that Trek had no legal liability. There's a difference in doing what you're legally liable for and doing what you feel is right. If I were Mr. Trek and I saw one of my products fail in a manner such as this, I'd do what I could to make it right. It's not an issue of warranty. It's an issue of the perceived value of my product.
I believe I already stated I'm not in the bike business. I see bikes discounted pretty heavily, especially in the bigger shops. From this I can guess at margins. I doubt anyone is getting rich owning a small bike shop, and I completely understand that you have to make money to stay in business. Keep in mind, I'm not faulting a shop. My contention is that one way or another Trek messed up. Is this point up for debate?
Again, completely true. I doubt my wife would be ripping he bottom bracket out of a bike anyway.
Look, we have a different view on this issue. You see mine as completely crazy. I don't particularly care. It is what it is. I'm entitled to my opinion. As far as I'm concerned this could be (or at least could have been) a completely civil discussion. Don't take it so personal and don't make it so personal. It's an internet forum thread, not your last will and testament.

What you are failing to grasp is that had WR still been covered, he's have a new frame by now. He chose to go outside retail.
If your used products were all over ebay, would you still replace broken ones? What if you had a dealer network to satisfy?
Maybe you sell anvils, but carbon bikes can be damaged by simply falling over!
Completely covered under warranty. No warranty, no coverage. Didn't buy the insurance? Don't whine when you have a loss.

You may be in business, but you have no clue about bike retail, that's for sure! Dealers (I am one) cannot afford to give away 20% except on buying mistakes. Cost of doing business approaches 40%. Bikes are nearly break even these days, so you will not find any shop(not about to go out of business) giving away current product like the Madone at 20% off.

Therefore, there is perceived value in buying new to get the peace of mind of having a warranty. You are free, of course, to not buy new one, but it comes with a certain amount of risk.
There. That civil enough?

Products that require warranty work/replacement carry a much lower perceived value for me. I've had so few product failures in my life that when one goes, it really stands out. I've had product failures with two Bridgestones, a cell Motorola mobile phone, my TSX CMC, and this Madone. Bridgestone left the states and I upgraded to Ritchey anyway, and I carry a Samsung now. The Acura gets one free pass because a car is such a complex system and nobody else makes a reliable 4-cyl 6-spd sports sedan.
The Madone... I'm upgrading to Fuji.

My bike is a made in USA made model, not Taiwanese or Chinese knock off. It came with a triple and I'll probalby swap it out next year. I know, I live in Chicago and there are no hills, but that's the way the bike was originally made and I started cycling at a very poor fitness level. I'm far from a fanboy but in fairness, I'm new to this forum and you have no way of knowing. I think WR's portrayal of Trek is unfair and unwarrented, so I had to speak up.
Aside from the ocasional (mod edit: ******* is not censored but don't use it to attack another ) (like yourself), this hobby has been a lot of fun and I've enjoyed BF quite a bit. In the past year, after getting serious about cycling, I've lost 35 lbs, quit smoking, and I'm in better shape than I've been in a long time. I'm not fast yet but I'm getting faster every ride.
Looks like the WR jock-sniffers are in the minority at under 40% in the poll. There is hope for this forum afterall!
Cheers,
F-biscuit

Hey ******bag (capital D), you haven't gotten anything right so far so I don't expect you to start now. I have no problem with WR, he seems like an okay guy who has a good sense of humor. My opinion wrt Trek and this situation would have been the same if the manufacturer in question was Giant, Cervelo, or anyone else. I didn't think Trek (in this case) was wrong with their policy. They did what they said they would do. You can say anyting you wish, just get your facts streight.
